Jake Aarts [merged]
« on: November 23, 2018, 06:08:03 PM »
Richmond has used its first selection (No. 16 overall) in the 2018 Rookie Draft to recruit VFL Tiger Jake Aarts.

Here is a summary of what Richmond fans can expect to see from Aarts on-field...

Date of birth: 08/11/94
Position: Forward
Height: 180cm
Weight: 76kg
Club: Richmond VFL

Since coming to Punt Road Oval in 2015, Aarts asserted himself as a key component of the VFL Tigers' forward line. He possesses classy football smarts and an ability to hit the scoreboard, as well as fierce competitiveness.

In the 2018 VFL season, of which he played 16 games, he amassed an average of 13 disposals, four tackles and over one goal and one score assist per game.

A member of Richmond's VFL leadership group, Aarts impressed this year with his hard-work and determination.

Speaking to VFL.com.au before the draft, Aarts said he has made the most of his opportunities on the field this year in the hopes he would be recognised for his efforts.

“I am a hard worker, I train hard, play hard and (I’m) a really competitive player,” Aarts said.

“My mindset has sort of been the same every year since I was a junior – just keep working hard and the rewards will come from that.”

After witnessing his consistent forward half pressure and tenacious nature over the past few seasons, the Club is excited to welcome Aarts into the senior team.

One of the better state players and Richmond VFL's best. Prepared to give him a chance as I've seen him play multiple times and lets face it, our recruiting department make sound decisions these days :shh

Really? Our best VFL player? Better than Mannagh and Ernest? Even Silvestro had him covered.... :shh

Chol was starting to show a bit in the VFL before he got hurt this year. I’m happy to use a rookie pick on him.

probably not the best option but at least it shows other players we will give them a pathway and a chance if they play vfl for us.

“’Aartsy’s’ one that’s really brought into the (Richmond VFL) program. Craig McRae (Richmond VFL coach) has been a massive fan of what he’s been able to do and how he improves, on and off the field. He’s really reliable and gets the job done. He’s improved his speed and power, he can kick goals, and pressure . . . He deserves a chance. It doesn’t matter where you fit on the national or the rookie list now, you can get a chance to play if the coaches are happy what you’re doing.”
