AN ANKLE injury has star Richmond forward Josh Caddy in some doubt for the season-opener against Carlton on Thursday, March 21 at the MCG.

He is expected to be kept out of full training for up to three weeks.

The Tigers said more information on his availability for the JLT Community Series and the Blues clash would be released when the 26-year-old returned to the main group.

Caddy made the Virgin Australia All Australian squad of 40 last year after booting 46.15.

He had ankle surgery shortly after the season ended.

Richmond's first JLT pre-season match is against Melbourne on Sunday, March 3, before a clash with Hawthorn on Saturday, March 9.

"Josh has been having a terrific pre-season and we're confident that with some rest he'll be on track again soon," football manager Neil Balme told richmondfc.com.au.

Caddy said he's still not sure about playing in round 1 due to that ankle. It's sore but he's back running.
