Tell Me Why
« on: April 01, 2006, 08:13:45 PM »
Can someone, anyone tell  me why?

* Jay Schulz stayed at full forward the entire night when 1/ the ball was hardly down there and 2/ considering he's played the entire pre-season as defender ???

* Nathan Foley started all quarters on the bench because when he came on he actually gave us some spark in the centre  ???

* when we were getting absolutely smashed in the middle with one of the main reason being we were so slow why we didn't throw the likes of Tambling, Deledio and even Rodan in the middle to at least try and speed us up (I mean the game was gone) ???

* we didn't try Gaspar at FF or even Chubba Kellaway to swat with Schulz (see above ;D) ???

* we are not quicker at the kick ins ??? (I know there is no better team at exploiting the new kick-in rule than the doggies) but geesh we looked so disorganised

* we just didn't try anything different especially once the game was gone (with the exception of Richo down back)

Someone, anyone ???

I guessing we were trying to stretch the doggies defence for height but yeah why play him entirely in defence all preseason then don't play him there in the real stuff  ???.

Lids copped a knock early so that's why he was playing forward. He was also our only forward for that matter who could hold a mark :-\.

As for the rest I don't think Tezza had a good night in the box.

Might as well wave the white flag  ;).

Why didn't he stick them on the bench?! They weren't doing anything.

We were still playing the old rule while the doggies murdered us with the new one. Even when we kicked quickly to someone free at HBF all the Tigers were on the wrong side of the ground so we always had to stop  :banghead

Wallace had a poor night too but it's hard to do anything when 3/4 of the side are lazy doing sweet FA  >:(.

Have no real answers WP, but in fairness, what difference could it have made what moves TW made?

Especially after half time, the mindset of the players was well and truly shot.  There was no pressure on the opposition whatsoever and they were doing as they pleased.

TW had about as much control over what was going on as you and I sitting in the stands.

Once the game starts, it’s entirely up to the players what sort of effort they’re prepared to make.  No one else can do it for them.  And if most of them are waiting for someone else to show them the way, and no one does, then basically we’ve got nowhere to go.  If players don’t take responsibility for their role, whatever it might be, then what hope have we got if everyone’s leaving it to someone else?

You hit the nail on the head MT and that I was probably the point I was trying to make - we just didn't seem to try anything and that's probably the bit that disappointed me the most. I just wanted them to do something, try anything.

I mean alot of people are being critical of Johnson and his captaincy but he can't do much when he is sitting on the pine - I don't care who the captain is, when things are spiralling out of control you don't sit your captain on the bench, he needs to be on the field. That one had me stumped.

It funny TS - 5-8 minutes before half time I thought we were still in the game - we'd worked so hard to contain the Dogs, they were killing us pace wise but we were holding them and then IIRC they got a goal at about the 22 minute mark from a stupid Tiger error (don't remember the culprit) and you could just see the heads drop. My first thought was we are gone here.

At the beginning of the the third when we are 5 goals down was the time I reckon when we should changed things around. Schulz should have been moved, our quicker blokes should have thrown in the centre, but we didn't do anything.

Agree WP. We were in the game and were coming at the Bullies with a mark on a HFF (Paddy). He then kicked backwards and across to the centre circle straight to a former teammate  ??? and the doggies got a cheap goal just before half-time  :banghead. Then two other Tigers did exactly the same thing after half-time and the whole team packed up for the night after that. We are the dumbest team in the league  :scream.

Maybe you're right WP, but the point at which you saw the heads drop was probably when the game was up.  Under those circumstances, what good does moving players really do?

The players are the ones out there and it's up to them how much effort they put in.  They also have to learn and understand the flow of a game.  If the opposition goes up a notch then they have to go with them, not just sit back and wait for someone to tell them what to do all the time.

Yes, a lot of them are young, but if they don't learn now, when will they learn?  All they really need to do, is do the job asked of them and then these things don't need to happen.

That would have been an idea WP as in the Age today is says according to Parkin, Eade volunteered that the 2006 Doggies had 17 players capable of running 20 metres under three seconds.
