Why are Collingwood flag favourites but not the fave for this game?
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Dunno where everyone else has been looking but from what I’ve seen at a couple of the betting agencies, we are equal favs for the flag with the pies.

Started the round $0.50 ahead of them then dropped $0.50 behind them after rances injury then all square after their loss on Friday.

The MCG website is saying they are expecting a crowd of 75,000 on Thursday night.

75k at the G on Thursday night?  Sure, no doubt.  Does that include the filthy Maggot supporters too?     :P

Fans urged to plan ahead with train works and should allow extra travel time.

We will be able to go into the game with nothing to lose while this time around all the pressure will be on the Pies.

If we can win on Thursday night as the underdog without Rance then it will be sweet revenge. Hopefully Dimma has learnt to not allow Sidebottom to run around and do what he wants and that we prevent Cox from being able to run and jump in a straight line at the ball. The Cats' defenders did the latter extremely well. The Pies also go all out trying to win games in the first half. So if we can stick with them on the scoreboard to half-time then we can run them down in the second half as the Eagles did on GF day and Geelong did in round 1. In the Prelim, we got too far back to make up the ground on the scoreboard.

I would be expecting 80k+ given one is the biggest club in the land and the other being Collingwood  ;).

The loss of Alex Rance will make Richmond a "less predictable" opposition, according to Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley, ahead of the Pies' round two clash against the Tigers this Thursday.

"You might think aerially they might be more gettable in the front half," he said on Thursday, although adding the caveat that Richmond's strongest defence was stopping the ball from reaching that part of the field in the first place.

It would be a change up from the Tigers, usually known for their predictable playing style, he said.

The blockbuster match between two of the competition's frontrunners is expected to draw a crowd of more than 80,000.

"There is a fair bit of sting among the boys," warned Richmond star recruit Tom Lynch earlier in the day.

The AFL website is tipping the Pies by 7 pts.

Match preview: Richmond v Collingwood

AFL.com.au
Sarah Black
Mar 27, 2019

Where and when: MCG, Thursday March 28, 7.20pm AEDT

Last time they met: MCG, preliminary final, 2018: Richmond 8.10 (58) lost to Collingwood 15.7 (97)

The Collingwood train left a shell-shocked Richmond in its wake, with Mason Cox dominating up forward in a second-term burst that resulted in a 53-point lead. Richmond rallied on the back of Jack Riewoldt's five goals, but it was too little, too late.

What it means for Richmond: Redemption. The Tigers were wounded after the Magpies overran them in the preliminary final. The two sides match up well, with Collingwood regularly causing Richmond trouble over the past few years.

What it means for Collingwood:
The Magpies are under the pump after a sluggish seven-point loss to Geelong in round one. A big win over last year's minor premiers would be a strong statement.

How Richmond wins:
Geelong's new-look speedy forward line poked holes in Collingwood's defence, and Richmond has the personnel to do the same. Big forwards Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt need to bring their smaller teammates into the game.

How Collingwood wins:
Exploit Richmond's second ruckman. Collingwood has the best midfield in the competition and will greatly benefit from Brodie Grundy going head-to-head with second-gamer Noah Balta.

The stat: Richmond star defender Alex Rance has missed two games since round nine, 2014. He is now expected to be sidelined for the year after tearing his right ACL last week.

The match-up:
Jordan De Goey v Dylan Grimes

Grimes (ranked 210th overall in the Schick AFL Player Ratings) will be hurting after De Goey (90th) kicked four last time they met. With De Goey capable of turning a match on its head, Grimes is set for a big task once again.

It's a big week for:
Nick Vlastuin

It will be the first time we will have a look at life at Richmond without defensive general Rance. David Astbury's role taking the No.1 forward (Mason Cox) isn't expected to change, but Vlastuin may be forced to take greater responsibility.

Big call:
After a quieter game by his lofty standards (23 disposals), expect Dayne Beams to dominate out of the middle in his second match back in the black and white and even kick two goals.

Prediction: Magpies by seven points

Going off Dimma’s last 8 years as coach, he isn’t one to admit he got something terribley wrong, so I’m tipping Sidebottom runs around again without much resistance.

I dont want him admitting he made a mistake, I want him to focus on why we got beaten & fix it next time around.

Mostly for the last 2 years we've done that, '17 we did it every return game
