Should Richmond play 3 games in Queensland
« on: April 05, 2006, 01:29:21 PM »
Considering hardly any of us like Telstra dome, would any of you support our club playing maybe 3 games in Queensland. I understand that Southport are offering the Roos $450,000 per game, surely we'd be worth an extra $200-250,000 for mine, If Southport/QFL offered us say $650,000-$700,000 per game would you support it. The club would hardly break even on same melbourne home games and I suppose our major sponsors like Motorola and AFG would think it was fantastic, but would the supporters go for it and would you support the Tiges playing 3 games in Queensland where we can get some more TV exposure & more importantly cash?

I think (personal opinion - no facts to back it up) the Roos are being offerd money to come up there and play in the hope that they will relocate up there full time. Isn't that what the league wants, a team in SE QLD.

Do we want that ?  -  No.
Would our membership ever allow that? - No.
Would we get offered the same money (or more as RT sugests) to come a play few matches?  I don't think so as there is no way they are going to be able to get us there full time.

To me it just seems the first step in getting the Roos up there.

We make  money on the games we play at telstra because we have an agreement that guarantees that

But you have to consider the following and that is you may get extra cash for playing the games up there but will that equal or better the potential losses in membership $$$$ for disgruntled members if you do it.

So my answer today is NO and in the future will remain NO

Would not support it at all

Same response as WP.

Didn't some board members in 1986 wanted us to move to Brisbane (GR might have said the same thing too from memory). Thankfully they failed. We were in a far worse financial predictament then than now. Our 4 Dome games are covered by an agreement that guarantees us money so I don't see the point to selling our soul for $250k (and that's ignoring any losses from disgruntled members in Melbourne). Once you start becoming nomadic you're on the path to permanent relocation. What we need more urgently is a better deal from the MCC. We are getting screwed under the current arrangements compared to our co-tenants.

Agree with Fluffy that this is the first step to getting the Roos up there permanently. The Roos will become another Fitzroy in that their colours, guernsey, etc will remain but they'll eventually be called the Gold Coast or Southport Roos with members in both the GG and down in Melbourne and given a set number of matches per year in Victoria.

The Roos would be the better for the move The Sharks are a prosperous club with great facilities overlooking their own ground. the players would be training before the patrons and would gain great support.

We'd be lucky to et the same price.
If it was offered we should take it.
