Gaspar- on the couch
« on: April 06, 2006, 12:45:05 PM »

Did anyone see Gaspar standing there hands on hips 15 metres out with Johnson running into goal? One of the Bulldog players was actually pushing Gaspar to chase. I missed it at the game but saw it when they made a big deal about it on On the Couch as an example of our players giving up.

Its also a heated thread over on big footy on the AFL board, so probably safer to discuss it here without the need to defend our players to opposition supporters

But gee thats criminal. Is there a better example of a senior player showing the younger players what not to do? If we persevere with some of our senior players because we'd get flogged every week if we just played kids like the Hawks, surely this shouldnt be a get out jail free card for this kind of behavior from the Vice Captain of the club.

I think he should be sacked from the club. Not dropped. Sacked. If he cant set a good example, he's doing nothing more than passing on the loser culture and mentality to our next generation of players.

And I'm real tired of our senior players failing to cushion the development of the younger mob

I was at the game 1980 and will say I didn't see the incident either because I was on the opposite side of the ground.

But I was watching "White Line Fever" last night where Tezza and Caro were taking calls and they showed the bit of tape you are talking about and I must say I was like  :gobdrop :gobdrop just couldn't believe it. Actually what made it worse for me was the fact the Dog's player was pushing Gaspar and he didn't even respond to that.

IMO it was one of Gaspar darkest moments - unbelievable, shocking  :banghead

Same here WP. I didnt get worked up until I saw the Bulldogs player actually pushing him to chase.

Just astonishing stuff.

I've got no hard feelings against the bullies nor Griffen saying we gave up. Its a fact.

Begs the question why do we continue to persevere with Gaspar and some other seniors. They're not contributing. They're infecting. They're passing on the Frawley loser culture to the new flock.

Its OK to get rid of a Zantuck because he's not a senior player, as we should have done, but why are senior players like Gaspar immune to the same treatment?

Just get rid of players that set bad examples. We cant create a desire and a culture of winning when senior players do what Gaspar did. He is a disgrace and has made himself my scapegoat for 2006. Screw allocated seating. I'm sitting every qtr on the fence by the backline and I'm going to give it to that lazy felcher

We gave him a 5 year contract. Out of contract end of this year though. Thank also Spud's recruiting that we still rely on oldies Gas and Kellaway in the backline.

Contracts dont mean he has to play. Break his contract the way the broke Carey's. I'd rather Gaspar got caught feeling up Richo than what I saw on WLF. This boy is just too much

Gaspar was caught on tape but in a 115 flogging there would be more examples than one of someone not putting in. If you are going to sack one then you have to sack em all or it doesn't work

no excuse
my bro emailed me the clip to see here in italy.  thank god im notthere! i would personally cave gaspars head in. he is a leader(meant to be)
i say f em all, every senior player like him should make way 4 th ekids, i would rather get flogged by 100pts with a team of kids that are having a dip, than 100pts with a team of losers, who dont try , dont care but still bank their pays! gaspar should play the remaining yr of his contract 4 that effort at coburb. bring on limbach hughes or mguane, give thrrsfield more game time even moore, lets see what these kids have got, we know gaspar cant kick, lost his heart and has no honor, so f him!

Fair call Gracie and I agree but that's what's being shown because it's clearly in the coverage and as I said I was amazed when I saw it. I am sure they are 100's of other examples but unfortunately they probably haven't been caught by the cameras

I think what made it worse was the fact that Gaspar is one our leaders (DVC)

Can you post the clip on this site Xman?

I'd love to get my hands on it. Already posted on another site I'm going to put it up on a billboard on Punt Rd next week.
