"The passion is back": Are the Tigers about to take over again?

Nick Dal Santo believes Richmond deserves more credit for finding their spark again, despite losing key players to injury.

Without Jack Riewoldt, Trent Cotchin and Alex Rance, the Tigers have had a strong fortnight, beating Fremantle in Perth and the Hawks at the MCG, both in clinical fashion.

Dal Santo feels their success despite adversity highlights the culture of the club.

“We’ve gone up and down with the Tigers, you go to the start of the year, they’re right back in the hunt, they just need things to fall into place, they won’t muck up on Prelim night again and away they go,” the former St Kilda midfielder told SEN Afternoons.

“A couple of weeks in with Jack Riewoldt, Alex Rance and Trent Cotchin going down, you think this could be one of those years.

“I spoke to someone who worked for that football club. They wanted to get to the mid-year break comfortable with 6-6, then they could launch into the second half of the year.

“They deserve credit. They travelled to Perth and had a great performance, and then came back at beat the Hawks who the week before just rolled the Giants.

“They just get the job done, but there’s something special about the Tigers.

“You can’t see it and you can’t touch it, but you can feel it. All of a sudden Jason Castagna is his old self, Josh Caddy is back and you’re starting to think the passion is back.”

Dustin Martin was dominant against Hawthorn, gathering 37 disposals, 10 clearances and kicking two goals.

Dal Santo believes Martin wanted to remind everyone that he is still as good as anyone in the game.

“Dusty Martin has been going through the motions for two months and he puts on a clinic yesterday,” he said.

“It had this feeling of I’m going to stamp this one and just let people remember that I’m still here.”
