SEN has Grimes, Houli & Floss as potential first time All-Australians.

Pretty impressive to have 3 possible All-Australian defenders in the side, and another on the sidelines.

Not sue on floss though, that might be a stretch

It was an all Australian side picked based on players who had never been selected before. At this stage I think only grimesy would be a chance.

RICHMOND

Shane Edwards was one of the feel-good stories of the 2018 side — and he could make it back-to-back nominations. Spending more time in the midfield has paid dividends for Edwards, who’s averaging career-high disposals (21.7). In the absence of Alex Rance, the Tigers have been well served by Nick Vlastuin and Dylan Grimes down back. Vlastuin has had some enormous performances — most notably against Melbourne on Anzac Eve — while Grimes has won widespread praise for his balance between intercepting and locking down on an opponent. Kane Lambert would also be in the conversation, as should Dustin Martin — despite performing below his high standards to date in 2019.

If Martin keeps this form up till years end he should at the very least sneak onto the interchange.

I thought Edwards was playing more back than mids this year.

Houli (HBF) and Dusty (bench) have made the AFL website's team of the year so far.

What a poo backline!

No wonder we have been so good for the last couple of years with the backline we have had.

When all fit, Rance, Grimes, Vlastuin are better than Moore, Stuart and Andrews.

Add in Astbury, Broad and now Sydney Stack with Short as a back up, and that is a better backline than that AA side they put up.

I think Martin could squeeze into the bench if he maintains his current form for the remainder of the year. I think Prestia and Edwards would make the 40 man squad also but based on the lack of continuity from so many of our players probably not too many tigers in the AA squad.

That being said I couldn’t give a rats about the AA now after giving Franklin the captaincy last year

Recent history

It was a lean early part of the decade for Richmond's All Australian representatives, with just four blazers handed out from 2010 to 2013. Six Tigers have received honours since 2010: Jack Riewoldt, Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio, Alex Rance, Dustin Martin and Shane Edwards. Rance will miss out on a sixth consecutive blazer this year after a knee reconstruction, while Martin has been named three years running.

Contenders in 2019

Shane Edwards
The creative playmaker has been playing a different role off half-back due to Richmond’s injury woes. Averaging 21 disposals (up from 19) and 4.5 score involvements a match. Unlikely to make the 22, but is in the running for the squad.

Bachar Houli
Is possibly in career-best form at the age of 31. The half-back flanker is averaging 28.7 disposals and 6.3 marks a game in 2019, up from 21.1 and 4.7 last year. At this stage, could be in the conversation for the final team.

Dustin Martin
Still one of the top midfielders in the competition, Martin has found himself closer to goal this year. Averaging 25.3 touches, 4.5 clearances and 1.1 goals a game. May struggle to make the 18, but an interchange position beckons.

Tom Lynch

Probably won't make the final team but is coming fifth in the Coleman Medal despite some lean matches. Is marking well and creating contests for his smaller teammates.

Kane Cornes on the Sunday Footy Show finally has a Tiger in his All-Australian/Team of the Year side. He's got Grimes in a back pocket.
