Another score review stuff up: Higgo's goal that wasn't
« on: June 07, 2019, 11:10:32 PM »
The score-review system will be in for an even greater amount of criticism over the next few days due to a clear Jack Higgins goal being ruled a behind after only goal line vision was viewed.

Ch 7 saying the Score Reviewer has 30 seconds to choose the angles of vision to look at.

In tonight's case the Score Reviewer chose the wrong angles and didn't choose/see the angle that showed Higgo's kick to be a clear goal :facepalm.

Richo said if that's the case then we have a flawed system.

What do they mean by choose? As a scientist I don’t choose the data that I think might work. I need all the data. Also what is it with the multimillion dollar afl and having cameras with frame rates and resolution comparable to a smart phone from 2010?

Did anyone watch the nrl state of origin the other night?

Their score review works a treat. Multiple camera angles in high definition the judges can make an easy decision.

We have to put up with fuzzy pixelation and the frame you need not available. Is it rocket science to get some quality cameras involved?

Mind boggling

The Herald Sun this week revealed a goal review bunker was being considered by the AFL, who are aware of the shortcomings of the current system.

AFL chief executive Gill McLachlan confirmed it on 3AW yesterday: “We need to do better … (If there are) mistakes, we need to take responsibility for them.”

“We think the bunker concept works, and Steve Hocking is well progressed on that.

“That will, I think, make the system more efficient and have hopefully less errors.”

In a professional competition, which turns over more than $600 million per year, and where wins and losses can make or break careers and clubs, we should expect nothing less.

Every time I watch Formula One I am amazed at their camera work - you can literally see tiny fragments of rubber coming off their tyres.

The AFL footage quality has always been terrible and frankly it's a disgrace when you consider the $$$ they make...

Technology on the run, was never up to expectations and then having Muppets making the decisions is a recipe for disaster.

While the review was wrong, I think the goal umpire should hold the blame for this. Caught in completely wrong position then guessed that the ball hit the post. How could he make the comment that he thought it hit the post? He had no evidence to base it on because he was on the wrong side of the ball.

Would not have changed the result

But it certainly was a momentum changer in the 2nd

"Significant errors" with score review system: Hocking

By SEN
8 June 2019

The AFL has once again admitted the score review system failed after another mistake made last night.

A Jack Higgins shot for goal was reviewed and classed a behind touched by Harry Taylor, despite evidence to the contrary.

In a statement, the AFL has said the vision was available to be checked, but the score reviewer simply did not use it.

AFL football operations boss Steve Hocking said he can understand the fans are frustrated.

“The score review system was introduced to correct obvious scoring errors,” Hocking said.

“In the last fortnight, there have been significant errors made during score reviews that have undermined the confidence of our clubs and the football public in the system.

“The AFL acknowledges that our players, our clubs and our fans are incredibly frustrated by each mistake, and we take full responsibility for them.

“We are committed to ensuring we have the best process and technology available and over the last few months have been examining all possible alternative to improve the score review system.

“We will keep the football public fully informed as we explore avenues to improve the system, such as the potential for a centralised officiating facility covering all venues and matches.

“In the interim we will continue to engage our score review officials, broadcast and technology partners in ensuring the current system operates as effectively as possible.”

Wow. SEN cant even get the story right wasn’t touched at all and that wasn’t even the dispute.    :help  :wallywink

Can we have a media review also so we can go to a bunker and someone can fact check the article before it goes to print.  :rollin
