I don't believe Richmond will play finals: Lloyd

Lloyd said people keep saying "they'll be right once they get their stars back" but he believes the long periods these stars have been out, the still lengthy timeframe before most of them comeback, injury setbacks (eg: Cotch's hammy) and thus the lack of continuity will hurt Richmond and he doesn't believe we will play finals this year.

Judd still believes we will make the final Eight but we won't do any damage in September.

Lloyd also said Rance and Astbury's absence means Garth is playing before he is ready. He normally wouldn't be playing AFL yet and would be working on his trade in the VFL. These hidings by opposition key forwards could even have a detrimental effect on such a young player.

lloyd is a flog but judd is probably more on the money.

You cant expect a flag with this much disruption.

We have had a good history of our players coming back in and doing well after long periods off, Cotch is the first who has had a hiccup.

Maybe its just the trend for this year, but our finals chances really do depend on these guys getting back and playing the remainder of the season.

I do love the way the media have swayed this season, after round 4 we couldn't win the flag, then win a few and we can and finally drop a few more and we cant win it again now.

Its hilarious, anyway the games the kids are getting will hold us in good sted for next year.

To say the floggings Garthy is getting will be destroying to his career is a joke. I remember Rance being towelled up a few times in the early days.

Lloyd was restating his comments in the OP today when discussing us with Richo. Richo said if we drop one of the next two against the Saints and Suns then it will be hard to see us making it. He Richo said we'll get 5-6 players back and have not a bad draw from here. Winnable games against the Saints, Suns, Blues, Dees and Lions at the 'G. We've also got Port, GWS and Eagles home at the 'G.

Richo did agree with Lloyd that it's hard to challenge come September against battle-hardened top sides when so many key players have missed large chunks of the season. The positive for the future past 2019 is we've found 4-5 young players who look like they'll become good long-term players for us: Baker, Stack, Ross, etc...

Some spirited wins away from home with key players missing (Port, Freo) are proving critical now. Says a lot about the maturity and culture of the group.
