What’s your thoughts on Bellis?
Going or staying?

Oh man if we lost stack I would blow mine bigtime.  He is a revelation, 'whole package' to parrot a stupid overused, but appropriate phrase.

Surely stack will stay. He's a cult figure.

If he went back to WA I'd be very worried that he could go off the rails again and become a has-been.

Be surrounded by the wrong people/club/culture. Stop training and managing his health (diet/fitness) as well. Lose motivation without established mentors around him etc.

Who’s playing for their career at your club?

Al Paton,
Herald Sun
1 Aug 2019

With four rounds of the home-and-away season remaining, some players are tuning up for finals and others are thinking of next year.

And dozens remain in limbo as they wait to find out if they will have a contract for 2020.

As list managers start to thrash out their priorities ahead of the draft and trade period, here’s a selection of players fighting for their careers over the next month.

RICHMOND

Callum Moore

Connor Menadue

Jacob Townsend

Mav Weller

Jake Aarts

The Tigers offloaded a series of fringe players last season — and most have been at least serviceable at their new homes (Sam Lloyd, Reece Conca, Anthony Miles et al). Connor Menadue survived the chop but could be on borrowed time after failing to cement a spot in the best 22. Callum Moore showed exciting signs last year but seems to have been overtaken by Mabior Chol (a serious ankle injury hasn’t helped), Mav Weller played the first two games but hasn’t seen senior action since, mature-age draftee Jake Aarts hasn’t played a senior game. Then there’s premiership hero Jacob Townsend, who earned a last-minute lifeline last year via the rookie draft. He has played just one game this year (for three disposals against Geelong) but is regularly in the best in the VFL. A late-season promotion has worked before ...

WILL RIVALS PICK OFF FRINGE TIGERS?

GEELONG’S VFL team was once fertile territory for rival sides to poach second-tier players given their three premiership dynasty.

Richmond’s depth players were picked off last year — Sam Lloyd, Anthony Miles, Reece Conca, Corey Ellis — and there is no reason it won’t happen again this year.

In the VFL side last week there were 11 players who have tasted AFL action this year — Kamdyn McIntosh, Ryan Garthwaite, Toby Nankervis, Jack Ross, Noah Balta, Oleg Markov, Patrick Naish, Mav Weller, Connor Menadue, Callum Coleman-Jones, Derek Eggmolesse-Smith.

Most are contracted and happy, with Nankervis and Ross returning from injury, but will rivals come hard at centre half back Garthwaite or second ruck Coleman-Jones?

I'm hearing Freo is heavily into Bolton. Big money for him.

Take Garthwaite, Butler, Bellis, Menadue please...
Retire- Grigg Houli
Delist- Aarts, Weller

8 list changes

Grigg, Houli and Bellis would free up some cap space for Stack and Bolton.

Time to say goodbye?

RICHMOND

Who has already called time?

Just the one retirement for the Tigers so far, with Shaun Grigg finishing up in May with a persistent knee injury. His exit allowed Richmond to sign Marlion Pickett in the mid-season draft.

Is it time for goodbye?

It's been a frustrating season for the out-of-contract Dan Butler, playing seven AFL games spread across three different blocks of the year. Having kicked 53 goals from his 45 matches, he could be a useful addition to another side who can offer more playing time.

Brandon Ellis is a restricted free agent who, despite having re-established himself in the side, has hit pause on contract talks.

Fellow premiership player Jacob Townsend was re-listed as a rookie at the end of last year, and despite some strong VFL form, has played just one AFL game.

With a young list, Richmond is unlikely to have any more retirements.
