Take Garthwaite, Butler, Bellis, Menadue please...
Retire- Grigg Houli
Delist- Aarts, Weller

8 list changes

Grigg, Houli and Bellis would free up some cap space for Stack and Bolton.

Houli gez wouldn't want you as a coach having a great year so crucial some people still don't understand his role in.our side.Garthwaite going no where kid been doing well in vfl plenty of time to develop kid was thrown to the wolf's early on this season.

If Houli’s roll is to not defend basically at all, and take the kick ins and kick it down the line, yes he is doing a great job.
A job just about everyone in footy would want.

If he didn’t play next year no body would mention his name. He would be just another Conca.

As for Garthwaite I have seen enough to know he is just a very average player. Only my opinion but I stand by it. And I guess only time will tell.

Dunno mate I think houli's value is a little more than infield

I think he is a key driver in our clubs culture

He has his flaws but I think he has been a valuable contributor to our clubs success

Nearly won a norm smith. Some say he should have
Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

Like I've said previously - I can live with and am happy with Houli's role and relatively non-existent contested ball. The problem is when you have Short on the other stuff as well. Happy for short to replace Houli after retirement but having them both in the back six is dangerous.

Steve Morris was a great shutdown small for a while, almost AA IMO. Game went past him but it was great knowing he would basically completely negate any small forward. He just couldn't do much else unfortunately.

Need a small defender with a bit more balance. We're very lucky to have Grimes, Broad and Floss who can play small and are contested animals....

Re-sign or let go? Your club's out-of-contract players

AFL.com.au
Marc McGowan
Aug 24, 2019

RICHMOND

Out of contract: Jake Aarts, Shai Bolton, Dan Butler, Mabior Chol, Shane Edwards, Derek Eggmolesse-Smith, Brandon Ellis, Bachar Houli, Connor Menadue, Callum Moore, Patrick Naish, Ivan Soldo, Jacob Townsend, Maverick Weller

Mid-season draftee Marlion Pickett has signed a one-year contract extension as he tries to force his way into the Tigers' line-up for the finals. Edwards and Houli will continue barring a shock, but there is interest in what Bolton, Butler and in-demand free agent Ellis do. Butler's been starved of opportunity, while the other two also have interest elsewhere but have been senior regulars this year. Chol is carving out a niche for himself in the senior team in his third season on the list, and Aarts is likely to be retained as a rookie. Eggmolesse-Smith, Menadue, Moore, Naish and Soldo will have varying confidence of staying on, but Townsend and Weller may be up against it.

Dan Butler

“Butler is out of contract. I think he’s asking for a sizable deal. I think if he gets another deal elsewhere, he’ll move on.”

Our list management team have done a great job this year. Edwards isn’t going anywhere and there are a few of the above you’d still hope to retain but nothing you would be losing any sleep over.

Ellis (free agent -> Gold Coast or Essendon): gain compo pick in return (late 1st round/early 2nd).

Butler (trade -> Carlton): gain pick 39.

None of the others out of contract would have trade value. At best a late pick (4th rounder) for Menadue. Effectively delist Menadue and rookies Townsend, Moore, Weller & Aarts..

Keep Eggy and Miller.

That would leave us with 5 picks in the top 40 of the draft: 18, 19, 36, 37, 39.

I'm guessing we'll use a late pick on Maurice Junior as a F/S. I haven't heard any others clubs willing to use an early pick to bid for him (?).

So far in 2 years Miller has shown absolutely nothing in the VFL to suggest he has a future at this level. Could be seen as harsh but I would move him on at the end of the year. Has the size to play key position but refuses to play like a 195cm player. Next :shh
