Apparently we haven’t beaten Port on the G for over 7000 days.

In all seriousness, I would not go in underestimating them. I know their outs are prettt significant, but didn’t we beat em on their deck earlier this year with heavier outs?

They also have the master coach Ken Hinkley

I think we will lose it at the selection table this week

Who is going to blast the goals from 1m out?

I’m always a bit superstitious so their win loss see saw pattern leaves me a bit worried. But I think we can jag a win win here

Yep. Last win against Port at the 'G was in Round 10, 1998  :P.

Mind you we've only played them 3 times at the 'G in the past 20 years  ::) and just 5 times all up since Port entered the AFL.

We've only had 9 homes games against Port out of 31 meetings in 22 years even if Docklands is included.

Home: 9
M.C.G.      - 5 (2w, 1d, 2l)
Docklands - 4 (2w, 2l)

Away: 21
Football Park - 15 (5w, 10l)
Adelaide Oval -  6 (3w, 3l)

Neutral: 1 (home game we sold off in 2011)
Marrara Oval, Darwin - 1 (1l)

I know I have been bagging on about this sort of irregularity for a while now but how is this fair in anyway?
Why can’t the AFL schedule home games every second meeting between clubs??
I just don’t get how it can be so one-sided when it comes to this.

Can anyone explain why they cannot do this?

Like I have said before, the fixture is compromised with the amount of team we have, and I get that, but there is no reason I can see why they cannot at least get the home ground advantage right.

A point well made BT
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

I feel like it's the same with Adelaide. We always seem to play these guys away or if it's a home game it's at Marvel ...

It isn't fair that we've played them just 3 times at our home ground in 20 years but one argument would be that when we put in our fixture requests Port would be low down on our list of wanted home game opponents whereas Port would have us high up on theirs as a big drawing Victorian club. They need us more than we need them. Our travelling supporters boost their home attendance (and finances) while they drain ours compared to us playing another Vic club or even the Eagles or Crows.

Today is the first time since 1998 that we've been sitting in the top 8 and playing Port at home at the 'G. 2007 we won the spoon; 2012 was a meaningless last round draw & 2016 was our 'off' year.

IIRC, Duncan Kellaway kicked his first goal in that 1997 win.
