25 July 2019Richmond remains hopeful captain Trent Cotchin will be right to play in Friday night’s massive game with Collingwood despite the impending birth of his third child.
But ruckman Toby Nankervis won’t be taking on Magpie ruckman Brodie Grundy, with the Tigers opting to give him extra game time in the VFL.
Cotchin’s wife Brooke is due to have the couple’s third child early next week.
“There is always a chance that these things happen but it is what it is … at this stage he (Cotchin) is playing and we’ll work our way through that if something changes,” Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said.
“He’s in the side at this stage, not sure exactly when it (the birth) is going to happen obviously. But we hope he gets through the game like he did last week.”
Hardwick said the Tigers didn’t want to risk Nankervis after his one game back in the VFL after a long injury lay-off.
“He won’t play, he’ll have another half at VFL level,” he said.
“He missed a large chunk of game time and it was a pretty significant injury, especially in the ruck.”
“We will get him through another game and then assess it the week after.”
