Richmond, meanwhile, will not necessarily bring back Toby Nankervis for the game after just half a game in the VFL following a nine-week absence due to adductor injury, with the Tigers having to weigh up whether Nankervis is ready to take on Brodie Grundy.

The Tigers have to make a call not only on Nankervis, but also on whether they can find a spot for Josh Caddy, who had been a cornerstone of the front half until a combination of injury, younger players grasping their opportunity and team balance has seen him remain in the VFL for a few games.

The media are saying Collingwood are looking at bringing in Goldsack, Scharenberg, Elliott & Thomas. Doubts on Cox as apparently he is sore while Dusty won't have to worry about Greenwood (hammy).

In the Mix: Round 19

RICHMOND

Get them in: Interesting times at selection for Richmond. Josh Caddy played in a defensive wing role and only for three quarters, given the five-day break between the VFL and AFL. Toby Nankervis played a half in the VFL in his return from an adductor injury, while Kamdyn McIntosh did not play at either level with the quick turnaround.

Under the pump: It was an excellent team performance by the Tigers, although raw disposal numbers may have been boosted by some over-handballing. With Nankervis edging closer to a return, Ivan Soldo may struggle to hold his spot. Liam Baker struggled at times in his new role behind the ball but looked better as the match progressed.

Medical room: No injured players are closing in on a return at AFL level, although mid-season recruit Marlion Pickett (finger) is a chance to play his first game for the club in the VFL.

Verdict:
If 'Nank' is right to take on Brodie Grundy, Soldo should make way given Mabior Chol's ability forward. McIntosh having the week off indicates he's likely to come back in, with Jack Graham potentially the unlucky one. Baker for Caddy if he's picked to return.

All I ask for Friday night is we play someone on Sidebottom.
Graham, Lambert or even McIntosh could do it if he comes back in.

He is their barometer IMO.

I understand Dimma backs our system in but there is nothing wrong with taking away their best player as well.

Collingwood v Richmond

Jamie Elliott is seemingly ready to return for Collingwood and could give the Magpies another avenue to goal.

The Pies will likely want another key defender to help deal with Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt. Tyson Goldsack and Matt Scharenberg would have to be in the frame.

All eyes will be on Toby Nankervis for the Tigers after one game back in the VFL. Ivan Soldo would make way if he is ready to go.

Josh Caddy has also pushed for selection after a couple of weeks in the VFL, while Patrick Naish, Oleg Markov and Derek Eggmolesse-Smith were also impressive.

Mark Stevens on Ch 7 news just said Nank won't be playing for the seniors on Friday night.

Goldsack not playing for the Pies either. Scharenberg, Elliot & Thomas are expected to come in. Cox won't be one of the ones Collingwood drops.

Jackstar is back!!!

Teams: Tigers sweat on Cotch baby watch

Glenn McFarlane,
Herald Sun
25 July 2019

Richmond remains hopeful captain Trent Cotchin will be right to play in Friday night’s massive game with Collingwood despite the impending birth of his third child.

But ruckman Toby Nankervis won’t be taking on Magpie ruckman Brodie Grundy, with the Tigers opting to give him extra game time in the VFL.

Cotchin’s wife Brooke is due to have the couple’s third child early next week.

“There is always a chance that these things happen but it is what it is … at this stage he (Cotchin) is playing and we’ll work our way through that if something changes,” Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said.

“He’s in the side at this stage, not sure exactly when it (the birth) is going to happen obviously. But we hope he gets through the game like he did last week.”

Hardwick said the Tigers didn’t want to risk Nankervis after his one game back in the VFL after a long injury lay-off.

“He won’t play, he’ll have another half at VFL level,” he said.

“He missed a large chunk of game time and it was a pretty significant injury, especially in the ruck.”

“We will get him through another game and then assess it the week after.”
