Tiges are the best wet weather team going IMO.

I'd agree, but I actually thought that the wet weather favoured the Eagles today. Kept it close IMO. We killed them in the 2nd quarter without taking advantage, and we were primed to do the same in the 3rd, but the rain evened things up.

Definitely take the win, but I think we might have opened them up a bit if it had stayed dry.

What I loved about the win was we didn’t bend over and capitulate after they jumped us like our performance against Collingwood in the prelim. We grinded it out and chipped away the lead then came out on top. This is the sort of win that has me thinking the tigers can seriously be holding up the premiership cup at the end of sept

LIKE 1: MARCH OF THE TITANS

There’s a scary element about Richmond. Not the jump-from-behind-the-door-and-say-boo scary, more the hunter chasing its prey. You just know the Tigers won’t abandon the chase.

They were near enough five goals down and then began their pursuit yesterday. There’s not a better wet-weather team as it suits their character and game style.

Dustin Martin is in 2017 form, so is Bachar Houli, and Dion Prestia looks built for wet-weather football. The Tigers are in the top four and play Brisbane Lions on Sunday. What a finish.

DISLIKE 3: EM-BARRASS-ING

Not much to dislike about West Coast yesterday. The team didn’t let itself down, although it would be worried by the contested-ball count (the Eagles were -22 yesterday).

Tigers coach Damien Hardwick told AFL 360 last week his team needed to bring the ball to the ground. It did that with the help of the rain. Tom Barrass played on Jack Riewoldt for 60 minutes and Tom Lynch for 40 minutes, and although he made some important defensive plays, he also made a couple of glaring errors that handed the Tigers goals. It was unlike Barrass, but now the Tigers will believe Barrass cracks under pressure.

Top shelf footy from top four teams

Sunday at the MCG was a pearler, the sort of game you’ll seek out and watch again in the middle of the summer when you’re craving a footy fix. Spotting West Coast a five-goal lead then coming back to win made this the best win of the season for the Tigers and if it's a wet September then they’re the red-hot flag fancies.

Dustin Martin willed Richmond home in this one. He had that look about him, Dusty, and it seems as though he has taken the sour finish to last season as a personal slight and is intent on rectifying things on his lonesome. He’s good enough to do just that.

West Coast’s first quarter was as good as we’ve seen footy played. They only need to tidy a few things up and they remain in the premiership race up to their necks. Mark Hutchings is now in a race to be fit for the finals, but the wildcard for West Coast remains Nic Naitanui. If he comes back that changes the equation enormously.

Redden: Eagles out of answers for superstar Martin

Midfielder Jack Redden conceded West Coast struggled to come up with the answers to stopping superstar Dustin Martin as the Brownlow medallist led Richmond to victory at the MCG yesterday.

Martin had a career-high 13 inside-50 entries to go with his game-highs of 35 touches and 818 metres gained.

The Eagles tried various approaches to limiting Martin, with Elliot Yeo sometimes matching up on him at stoppages before it became Redden’s assignment.

Yeo (26 disposals) had 11 of his game-high 15 clearances in a big second half and Redden finished with a season-low 16 touches, while Martin was a constant threat.

“I went to his body a little bit at stoppages in the second half. He was dominant in the first half and doing a bit of damage, so I tried to nullify him a little bit,” Redden said.

“He floats between forward and on-ball and he’s a great player and hard to stop. He’s a gun of the competition obviously and you just need to try and nullify his impact and his damaging touches.”

West Coast’s options for Martin were limited by the early loss of Mark Hutchings with a hamstring injury.

Coach Adam Simpson said the Eagles lost the midfield battle as a collective.

“I think Dusty (Martin) had a really good game, played really well,” Simpson said.

“He did it on ball and as a half-forward coming up. Which is part of the way they play. It’s hard to defend, unless you go all the way with him.”

Redden said the Eagles “had a crack” late after giving up their early 29-point lead, but ultimately put their own back-line under too much pressure.

“We started well with our game plan but we just couldn’t stop their momentum I suppose. Because they get the ball and run in waves,” he said.

“I thought we had a bit more composure in the first quarter and we took the game on a little bit more. They didn’t really allow that in the second quarter and took that away from us.

“They probably beat us around the ball a little bit in the second and got dominance in that area. So the boys had a crack but just couldn’t stop their inside 50s in the end.”
