Fremantle Dockers coach Ross Lyon has been sacked after eight years after the club failed to make the AFL finals for the fourth consecutive year.

Staff have been told that chief executive Steve Rosich is also leaving in a dramatic day at the WA club.

Lyon will leave the club with immediate effect, with one game left in Fremantle's season.

It is likely one of Fremantle's assistant coaches, David Hale or Anthony Rock, will take charge of the team for its final game against Port Adelaide this weekend.

Fremantle president Dale Alcock will hold a press conference at 1:00pm AWST.

TBH he was one bad bounce and one toe poke away from a couple of flags. Given good talent at his disposal he did well. His major problem was developing youth in roles that suited them. Also I’m not sure if he has adapted well to the current game styles....

Does anyone reckon he will be back in football in any shape or form? He doesn't seem very likeable. I think his style was revolutionary while also being bloody awful for the game and he has been out evolved into the current scrummage we watch each week.

Please NO! Ross has only one gameplan: Negatively congest the game and bore everyone to death kicking seven goals a game while holding the opposition to six  . It's why he's never won a flag. It worked against most oppositions but the top sides with quality forward lines cracked it. You need to kick goals to win a premiership. Trying to save games than win them rarely works.
