Ahead of tonight’s preliminary final blockbuster between Richmond and Geelong, Garry Lyon and Tim Watson listed the “tails” for the two respective clubs.
Winning finals requires a strong collective effort meaning the contributions from fringe players becomes all the more important.
“You (Tim Watson) said to me that finals can often come down to bottom five players,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
“The bottom five is not derogatory. When you get to a preliminary final the bottom five players are probably the top five in most other teams.
“Don’t take this the wrong way. But if your tail is a little bit longer than the opposition’s tail, then it could be the difference.”
In no particular order, Lyon and Tim Watson named their “bottom five” for Richmond:
Garry Lyon’s bottom five for Richmond: Nathan Broad
Brandon Ellis
Jason Castagna
Liam Baker
Ivan Soldo
Tim Watson’s bottom five for Richmond: Jack Graham
Ivan Soldo
Shai Bolton
Jason Castagna
Nathan Broad
