Sep 20, 2019 1:29PMSUNDAY'S VFL Grand Final will be Richmond forward Mav Weller's last as a professional footballer.
AFL.com.au understands Weller informed his teammates of his decision to retire in recent days. He was due for an exit meeting at season's end where he was set to learn his fate on a 2020 contract.
Weller arrived at Punt Road on a one-year deal via the Pre-Season Supplemental Period (SSP) in December after being delisted by St Kilda last year.
After impressing over pre-season as a readymade small forward option, the 27-year-old played the first two AFL games of the season before playing out the rest of 2019 in the VFL.
Weller will instead turn his attention to business interests next year after a nine-year AFL career spanning three clubs.
Weller arrived at Gold Coast in 2011 and played 32 matches before moving to St Kilda from 2014-2018 and featuring in 89 matches.
After his two games at the Tigers this season, Weller finishes his AFL career with 123 games.
