It’s difficult to rate him highly due to injury but he was managed to perfection in the end. His finals series was exactly what a captain should produce, less emphasis on possessions and more emphasis on the one %’s and leadership. He has developed into a great captain.

Like Dusty will do kicking a goal, Jack will do taking a pack mark or Grimes/Rance have done saving the day down back with an intercept mark, Cotchin turns games with chase down tackles.

In the Prelim he turned the game on Stanley, in the GF he set the tone on Mumford.

While there are many other strings to his bow, this time of his game is almost unique to the competition and wins us big games
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Gave him a 7

His injury woes this year is the main reason. That and his goal kicking. At times it lets him down

His tackling is elite, sets a standard, sends a mwssage

His leadership makes everyone a better player. Epitomised by his tackling in final series. 10/10 for me

Not just his chase down tackles but also those desperate lunges off the ground to get a hand on the ball and stop the opposition getting a clean take away.

Freak

But this year I gave a 6, purely because of injuries etc

Played 14 games and a couple of those were impacted on

If he played all year, obviously a higher mark

It all depends on how you rate players.  If you rate Cotchin's year on numbers & averages then you could only give him a 6 or so.  The games missed from injury brought his numbers down.
But, if you rate Cotchin by the effect he has on the team then you need to consider a rating of 9 plus!
I just notice that Cotchin has an effect on every player in the team.  He says, "Come on, let's go!" & every single player lifts to a new level.  He connects with every player equally, he leads by example & brings everybody along with him!  He isn't above anybody, he is just there to make everybody better!  For this reason he is one of our greatest ever Captains.
This year I'll give him a 10!      ;D
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!  Loud, proud & dangerous!
