Here's the Club's expectations (Adam Kingsley):

“Our expectations around Hugo this year are to establish himself his position in the team, whether that’s half-back, whether it’s wing, or half-forward. He’s got to find his position and really hold on to it.

“The contest part of the game is Hugo’s room for improvement, and he’s certainly been working hard on that over the summer and improved significantly in that part of the game.

“His ability to run and carry and kick the ball and mark it is really impressive and they continue to stand out across the course of the pre-season . . .

“We see him as that half-forward/half-back type of player, possibly on the wing. And he was able to show a bit last year in those positions.

“So, we’re hoping that he continues to progress and establish his position in the team and is able to have a real impact for us this year.

“It’s his third year in the Club now, so we’re expecting him to take a step forward and start to build his career.”

I think he’s very good. Very composed player and not a panic merchant. I like the way he goes about it and works his arse off to make himself an option.  :clapping

Hugo lacked the confidence to take the game on last night. At least a couple of times he found gaps and could have used his pace to run and bounce all the way inside 50 yet stopped and hesitated and the passage broke down via the final kick. Aside from the last preseason game in which he was very good, his kicking has been a bit off as well even at training with the final pass inside F50. Dimma even mentioned it on the RFC website. As an outside player you need to be able to hit leading targets as a given.

Kicking was poor, decision making was poor.

If our forwards would lead that would be a great start.
Lynch refuses to lead into space as does Dusty when he’s forward.
Jack does but was very lacklustre and slow last night.
I’m not sure what the directive is but we aren’t going to be successful up forward if our big men aren’t prepared to lead up.

I don’t see what others see in him. I don’t rate him at all right now. Has room to improve and I think he can but is certainly no world beater.

Love his run. Hope he continues to back himself in and use his pace.
