St Kilda's second rounder is a nice little win. Could be just a pick our two after our first next year  ;)

Otherwise I'm not over the moon, but I have faith in our recruiters that they've found a player or two. Would love to shove it up the Scraggers if we end up with the better Dow  :rollin

Very happy

We went down the long term path as opposed to the short term

When you've won 2 flags in 3 years, have your core group still young enough to continue to challenge for a few more years that's what you do

I gave them 2/10.

Reason being they did nothing in trading pre draft. They also failed to get us an earlier pick in the draft. They just sat back and felt sorry for themselves regarding the compo pick.

In terms of the players drafted its an all or nothing job
Dow has good hands in close but what else? 3 players taken from acadamies where both Brisbane andcSt Kilda were not prepared to match even with rubbish picks as late as 59+.

I fear that if this draft doesnt go well we could end up with 0 players from this years trade and draft effort
Whilst we are ok in 2020 and 2021 if none of them come through we will be scrambling to maintain our position in 3 or 4 years time.

We clearly went for potential over performance...reckon we didn't really rate this draft crop so just threw caution to the wind a bit..because we're probably in a position where we can for at least one draft..speed, agility, quick hands & flash (or "x-factor" as the kids say) were clearly the priority...if it turns out the gamble doesn't pay off , well it's one year in a successful era and on the back of a streak of good draft results.... so it likely won't have too much of an effect - it's when you start stuffing it up nearly every year or every other year like we used to, that it starts to become a problem and effect the club long term....at least we still have all of next year's picks and almost certainly moved up in the second round with the pick traded from Collingwood being tied to the St. Kilda... :shh

Maurice Rioli Jnr and Baxter will cost us when clubs bid for them. We wont have a strong draft position next year either unless we trade out players.

At this stage we won't have to give up much or MRJr. We have an extra (likely) early 2nd rounder. We are in an excellent position.

Drafting 5 more teenagers would free up our TPP somewhat. It won't be surprising if we target a free agent next year. So I can understand the strategy for this draft if that's the way we go next year. All about long-term planning. The answer we won't know for 3-5 years.
