Brown in as Tigers make three changes

Richmond has named Nathan Brown in its side for Saturday night’s Round 4 clash with Brisbane at the Gabba.

The Tigers also have called up David Rodan, Andrew Krakouer and Adam Pattison, who all played for Coburg in the VFL last weekend.

“Nathan looks like he’s got through yesterday’s training session pretty well, so at this stage, he’ll be lining up for us on Saturday night,” said Richmond’s Football Operations Manager Paul Armstrong.

“For the second week in-a-row, unfortunately, we’ve lost a couple of players through injury.

“Darren Gaspar will be out for 2-3 weeks with a hamstring strain, while Tom Roach has had the broken jaw he suffered in last week’s game operated on and he’ll miss 5-6 weeks.

“David Rodan did enough at Coburg last week to justify his re-selection in the senior side. He had his best game for quite a while . . .

“Adam Pattison comes in as another tall to help out Troy Simmonds, and Andrew Krakouer showed some form for Coburg down at Geelong last Saturday kicking three goals.

“Apart from that, Jeremy Humm, who came in against his old side West Coast last week as a replacement for Will Thursfield, has lost his spot.”

Nathan Foley, who racked up plenty of possessions for Coburg last weekend, has been named as an emergency for the match against the Lions along with Greg Stafford and Danny Meyer.

The Tiger team will travel to Brisbane tomorrow morning and train at the Gabba at 4.30pm.

They might have had good games for Coburg last week but I would have thought it would've been better if Krak and Rodan were given another week or two in the VFL to show consistently good form before getting another crack in the seniors. I know Joel came back better than ever but even when he having brain implosions he at least found the footy each and every week. Likewise even though Humm was poor you'd at least give him another shot on the proviso if he is poor again it's goodbye at the end of the year because he ain't up to it.

Good to see Patto back in to help out and free up Simmonds.

Yeah WP I wasn't expecting any support lol for Humm as he had a shocker but in general I don't see how one week in one week out selections helps anyone as we need to find blokes who perform at a high standard week in week out. If Krak and Rodan have a quiet game do we drop them again? Is Humm now just a Coburg player for the rest of the year until we delist him or do we give him another chance later on ahead of a youngster?

That's why I was disappointed with Humm's promotion and subsequent selection in the first place - IMO playing 2 good quarters at Coburg shouldn't get you a game and then to get dropped the following week - what has it given us long term.  ??? :help Very little IMV

I agree with what you are saying about Krak and Rodan (although Rodan has had 2 solid games for the Burgers) - what's the point there ??? I mean with Krak has one week at Coburg been enough of a rocket for him?

What a disgrace that Krak has come back in so quick.

How is he ever going to learn >:(

It's a shame we can't get Stafford in the side. I had feeling they might rest Brown and play Staff, who knows, it still might happen. Wonder if they'll fly Stafford up there anyway considering he's not playing til Tues???

What can you do?  We're shooting blanks.

Our kids aren't good enough to warrant selection into a side choc full of very average players.

Our recruiting is soley to blame.

Sad state of affairs down at punt road - not looking good.
Does anyone have half an idea on anything?

We're paying for the hole in the middle age bracket of our list.  A number of our senior players that had best years in 2005 aren't reproducing that form this year - Gas, Kellaway, Richo, Cogs (early 2005) and of course Browny for obvious reasons - while our youngsters are either not ready yet (we have the most teenagers of any AFL club) or are injured  :( so they can't fill the void that should be filled instead by 21-25 year olds. The only gains so far this year have been Simmo, Paddy and Rainesy.
