Oleg Markov - 2020 expectations?
« on: February 16, 2020, 05:38:37 AM »
The start of the season is just over a month away. A good time as ever to start discussing everyone's expectations of various Tiger players this year.

First up is Markov.

What are your expectations for Oleg this season and what would be a good year for him?

I expect him to break O-leg to stay on this list for another year
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Absolutely nil. Will run around in the VFL doing a solid job then get delisted at years end.

TBBH, none

Would be very surprised to see him in the AFL side in 2020

Has some potential as a medium forward...can't really see him realising it at Richmond at least though....can see one of the SA clubs picking him up as fur a low pick or more likely a DFA at the end of the year...most likely Port..definitely has a bit of a Port Adelaide vibe about him.. ...:shh

Makes way too many silly errors for mine.  Got the physical attributes but not the footy smarts.
Going to be extremely hard for him to break in if not for injuries.

Crunch year....
True.  Will he or will he not extract the digit and be a regular senior player?
I have doubts as I would’ve expected something from him last season. Some players just can’t take that next step or they may be able to at a lowly club and be ok there, we all know we’ve seen plenty of those types over the years at Richmond.

I’ve lost all confidence in his abilities to make it with our current list.
The club that keeps giving.

Remarkable athlete. So quick and can leap etc.

In the 2016-17 years I thought he might make a player but other guys have gone streets ahead of him in those years.

For his likely position(s): Baker, Stack, Higgins, Bolton

For spots in general: Graham, Chol, Balta, Ross, KMac, RCD, CCJ, Pickett even.

So many ahead of him. Will just be another year in the magoos before being delisted. Nobody will trade for him either because they know we won't keep him.

May get a block of 2/3 games mid year. Club seems to do this to see if a player can grab the chance in the last year of his contract and earmarked to go.

Agreed, but you see I thought we did this already in early 2019 with his 2 games...

I still remember reading a snippet in the HUN after he was drafted that Richmond staff were amazed with how he was coming along and big things were expected  :shh

You mean the club used hyperbole to talk up a draftee and raise expectations? Surely not... :shh
