Wallace names Richmond’s 11 ‘untouchable’ playersBy SEN
25 Feb 2020AFL Hall of Famer Terry Wallace has identified the players he believes are ‘untouchable’ at Richmond.
The former Tigers coach has assessed the current list of the 2017 and 2019 premiers, suggesting that there are 11 positions up for grabs if they want to continue improving and contending for the premiership.
Wallace believes it is just as important to blood promising youngsters to learn their craft alongside the established senior players in a bid to constantly get better rather than keep turning out the same line-up.
“Teams who have been able to stay up for a long while have been brave enough to change up the premiership team and allow other younger players to come into the line-up at times,” he said on SEN’s Dwayne’s World.
“Are they going to be in a better position in 18 months if they just roll out the same 20 premiership players again this time around?
“I think Damien Hardwick has got 11 untouchable Richmond players who just play.
“They’re the guns, they play every week.
“But I would open up the last 11 spots and say, ‘Well, hang on, the rest is up there for opportunity’. Because how do we know if a (Riley) Collier-Dawkins or a Noah Balta is not going to be a better player in 12 months than the bloke who won the premiership for them last season?”
