He along with Sonsie were the best of the Cubs

Really like his game

And kudos to him for bouncing up after that dog Robinson lined him up to take him out

Erly in the season did not think he was going anywhere but yes i think he can become a very good player for us.
Still think it would be a mistake to just focus on his defence and pressure. He needs to become a real damaging offensive player as well.
Im now  actually  optimistic that he can get there.

49. Maurice Rioli

Was involved in everything early, setting up Tigers scores and applying terrific defensive pressure for most of the night. Kicked a goal from 12 disposals and finished with the third-most pressure points of all Tigers players.

Massive call Mat.

I've said that before Dusty, Maurice Snr was the best Tiger I'd seen play.

Have also said if Maurice Jnr is half as good as his Dad he will be a star.

I reckon he will be 2nd best behind his Father  :thumbsup

I saw first hand every VFL game that Maurice Snr ever played for us, it took him a while to acclimatize but after the first few months he started to prove himself.  He then went on to be one freakish player, by late '82 he was head & shoulders above everybody.
Maurice Jnr has played around 12 games (?) but he already looks like a more balanced player (equally good by hand & foot on both sides) than Snr ever was.  If Snr had a fault it was being very one-sided & slightly poor over head.
If all continues on its current trajectory, Jnr will overtake Snr by about mid-season next year.
Then we will have one heck of an incredible player!      :bow
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!  Loud, proud & dangerous!

Forty years after his legendary father lit up the September stage for Richmond, exciting, young, small forward Maurice Rioli Jr produced an impressive first-up AFL finals performance in the Tigers’ two-point elimination final loss to Brisbane at the Gabba last Thursday night.

Richmond assistant coach Xavier Clarke was also impressed with the development of Daniel’s uncle Maurice Rioli Jr, who was a shining light for the Tigers in 2022.

“I have been surprised with how quickly he has come on with his fitness and endurance,” Clarke said.

Maurice kicked 14 goals from 15 appearances, but it was his defensive pressure and tackling that provided the highlights.

Clarke said he could see Maurice moving into the midfield and playing a similar role to Shai Bolton or his cousin, Cyril.

“With another pre-season under his belt, I think he can certainly have an impact in patches around the ball and the centre bounces in particular,” he said.

“I think he certainly has the ability to move in there in the future and trouble opposition teams.”

Maurice also signed a contract extension to remain at the Tigers for at least the next two seasons.

If Maurice develops his tank and plays midfield he could cause enorrrrrmous problems for opposition teams.
Go Tigers!
