RICHMOND

One of the few South Australians eligible to be drafted in 1990 thanks to Adelaide’s entry into the AFL, Matthew Clarke found himself heading to Richmond with Pick 56.

After spending 1991 playing for the club’s under-19s side, an 18-year-old Clarke was delisted. Three clubs later, he’d played 258 games, winning Brisbane’s best and fairest award in 1997.

We’ll also note Brad Ottens’ exit from the Tigers here, even though he played 129 games in yellow and black.

Ottens was traded to Geelong for picks 12 and 16 - which seems reasonable, but Richmond bungled those selections, with Danny Meyer and Adam Pattison combining for just 78 games at the club.
