Lists of 41 players in 2021: Barrett (MMM)
« on: May 30, 2020, 11:08:57 PM »
Damian Barrett on MMM today said playing lists will be shrunk in stages rather than immediately going to 35. He spoke about lists going from 45 down to 41 players next year.

If true, then 4 extra players will have to be axed at the end of this season on top of those delisted and replaced by new draftees.

I still don't get that logic. It means clubs can't develop players. Why do that, seems long term stupid to me.

Theres too many average players in the league its not a bad move imho. It should help lift the standard of play.

Related to list cuts.

“It’s my understanding that some players are just not willing to take those pay cuts, and they’ll be prepared to move to a club that can accommodate their 2021 salary in its entirety,” Ralph told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight.

“Clubs like that with real flexibility, if list sizes are to come down, are really looking for the opportunity to poach rival clubs’ players, they’ll be in a very positive space.
