Hardwick's post-game presser
« on: August 22, 2020, 11:16:24 PM »
Dimma post-game:

* Did a lot of things right. Pleased with the way we played. Couldn't get the polish to finish it off. Left a lot of goals out there. Left the door open and they challenged us to late in the game.

* Left the out-the-back open too often when they were having to take chances through the corridor. I think Dimma said we gave up 5 goals that way. Need to shut that down.

* Bolton reaping the benefits from working hard with our coaches. Ability to move in & out of traffic is terrific.

* Edwards will be rusty but he is a special player & person. He's been training with our coaches in Melbourne. Wish we could have him up here sooner.

* 2020 will be one of the hardest flags to win but as a result will be one of the most memorable. Told the boys it will something you will tell your kids. There's been challenges but we're very grateful to play, especially to the Qld govt, NT govt and the AFL.

Bolton has been superb, its a shame the coaches haven't been able to do anything with our small forwards. Seems like we are playing with a 2 prong forward line at the moment and relying on the mids to do the rest.

Tigers' coach Damien Hardwick was pleased with the performance which he said was dedicated to Shane Edwards who remains in Melbourne after the birth of his child.

Hardwick revealed that one of Edwards' grandparents had died during the week with the premiership midfielder likely to join the club in the hub on September 15.

He said Edwards was in good physical shape and although he might be a bit rusty leading into finals he would have no problem slotting back into the team.

The Tigers' seventh win from their past nine games came after their dominated the play and possession against Essendon, recording 66 inside-50 entries to the Bombers' 24. They also had 12 more scoring shots.

"There was a lot of things we did right, we just couldn't quite get the scoreboard ticking over as nicely as we'd like. I thought we played a pretty good brand of footy and just couldn't quite get the polish on the end and we left a lot of goals on the table," Hardwick said.
