Hardwick's post-game presser
« on: September 11, 2020, 11:35:21 PM »
Dimma post-match:

* All players stood up under adversity given we lost Soldo and Lynch. An even performance. Jack was great and Dusty did his thing.

* Soldo has a significant knee injury. Looks like an ACL at this stage. Will have scans. It's disappointing for not only us but also raw for Ivan and his family watching.

* Lynch has a hammy. Scans Monday.

* An opportunity for others. Chol was close this week. Astbury will return plus Edwards. Caddy returns from his injury while Broad is also available. Chol and Caddy will play in our scratch match.

* Ruck setup?
We will sit down tonight and discuss our ruck options. There's Marbs but we've also lost a key forward.

* Jack's leap has come back and he forced contests. His knee injury hampered him early in the season which probably affected his leap and movement.

* Balta contested well. Grimes outstanding. Both did a stellar job. Dylan is an incredible talent. Remember he was a PSD pick when I first took over as coach. People talk about Cotch and Dusty but Dylan is up there with them. Defenders don't get their dues.

* Stack/CCJ incident?
Work to do to re-earn respect as a club. We believe in a growth mindset. You can't change the past; you can only look forward. We put the issue to bed early and responded in kind.

* Geelong games are always close. We've luckily come out on top in recent games but they're a well coached and drilled side.

* We still have another game to go and we can't take the Crows lightly. Adelaide are not the side they were 4 weeks ago. Last two weeks they've been very good with the metrics of a top 8 side.

"Soldo we think has a significant knee injury," Hardwick said. "We will wait to confirm that by scans which is disappointing.

"He has been such an important player for us over the course of this year and last.

“It looks like [an ACL] at this stage, but we’ll see.”

The loss of Soldo means the Tigers have to consider whether their other regular ruckman Toby Nankervis, who rucked without another specialist ruck in the 2017 premiership, will need back-up, potentially from Mabior Chol.

"We've got a week to figure that out,'' said Hardwick of the ruck set up, and said it was disappointing for Soldo and his family for him "to go down'' with the knee injury.

"Yes, Tom has a hamstring. We are not quite sure of the severity of that at the moment but he will probably have scans on Monday also. So, look, two big losses. We have got some players we think can step up and fill the void.

"Two big losses but we've got some players who can step up and fill the void,'' said Hardwick. "It's disappointing to lose those blokes.''

Hardwick said Mabior Chol would “certainly put his hand up”.

Nathan Broad, David Astbury and Josh Caddy are also on the verge of regaining their spots in the best 22.

"I thought all our players stood up at various stages. Especially with some adversity, losing [Ivan] Soldo and Tom [Lynch] throughout the course of the night.

"It was pleasing that it was probably a very even team performance. Jack [Riewoldt] had big moments."

The Richmond coach singled out outstanding defender Dylan Grimes, who was superb with his intercepting and marking in defence and helped Noah Balta curb Geelong's Tom Hawkins.

Hardwick said Balta "did a terrific job...Dylan was outstanding there as well.

"The guy's an incredible talent,'' Hardwick added of Grimes, comparing a couple of the defender's marks to Carlton great Alex Jesaulenko. Grimes had recovered from a minor hamstring to return less than than three weeks after his injury.

"I thought we defended behind the ball very solidly throughout.''

Hardwick on Coleman-Jones and Stack ...

"It was disappointing and we stand by that," Hardwick said. "Once again, we feel it is not a reflection of us but the reality is respect is very hard to earn and easily lost.

"We have got some work to do in that part of our make-up. We are disappointed.

"Those boys are incredibly disappointed as well but they have accepted the role that they have accepted the role that they play.

"It can [galvanise the group]. But we also can't shy away from the fact that we let ourselves down. Once again, it will take agents bit of time to move on with. But our players have got a very good understanding about that and what we need to do to get back."

Didn't watch all of it but was actually less of a jerk than normal.

Think it's getting hard to pretend we're no good when they can't seem to beat us when it matters haha. Even with two big guys on the bench...

What did Salty say in his presser?

He actually praised us

Said we are the best team in the comp but believes they're a better team than last year  ;D

Also said they couldn't get through our defence, we are so strong back there

There was probably more but I fell asleep  :rollin
"Oh yes I am a dreamer, I still see us flying high!"
