Yeah doubt he'd be playing senior footy next year unless all those blokes went down at the same time ...could well be the next NicNat.... but right now it seems a  bit of a baffling choice to me... :huh

Lions Academy graduate Samson Ryan lands at Tigerland
By Richmond Media - 9 hrs ago

Richmond has used its first selection (No. 40 overall) in the 2020 national draft to recruit Brisbane Lions Academy graduate Samson Ryan.

Earlier in the evening Richmond traded their first round selection (No. 20 overall) for Geelong's future 2021 first round pick.

Recruited from: Sherwood, Queensland / Lions Academy
Position: Ruck
Height: 206cm
Weight: 96kg
DOB: 09/12/00

What the Richmond recruiters say about Ryan

Samson is a 19-year-old ruck prospect that is a genuine AFL ruck size at 206cm.

A graduate of the Brisbane Lions Academy, Samson was due to play NEAFL football this season before its cancellation.

Instead he plied his trade for Sherwood in the QAFL, not just holding his own but often comprehensively beating stronger and more experienced ruckmen.

Samson demonstrates real creativity with his tap work, utilising all 360 degrees to give great service to his teammates.

Furthermore, Samson has natural touch by foot, follows up at ground level and can impact in the air, dropping back to intercept or providing a target down the line and up forward.

While his focus will be putting on size and strength to compete regularly at AFL level, Samson has the tools to forge a successful career in the yellow and black.

Not happy with all of FJ's chocie over the years I assume

So not happy with

Lambert
McIntosh
Rance
Grimes
Martin
Cotchin
Baker
Riewoldt
Edwards
Castagna
Bolton
Broad

to name but 12

Or don't they count?

Yes there are misses

But a lot of hits....too

Bolton.... is a FJ massive hit don't you think?  :shh

My point before the whacks and attacks come is:

Not disputing the misses but when I look at the blokes who have run out and won us 3 flags in 4 years most of them were recruited under FJ's watch.

We can't sit here and bash him and him alone for the misses and not give him any credit for the ones that have worked out in spades.

:ROTFL

So we are a great team now and ol’ “betamax” Jackson is some sort of recruiting genius?  :rollin

Does anyone else think that maybe the old fella needed help and he actually got some people that know what we should be looking for in relation to our team dynamics?
He obviously must have had some limited idea but I think we all know that he was useless and early days he and our club had no idea with no means of development even if we did.

But you can think he’s the greatest recruiter of all time if you want but I choose to look at all the obvious misses everytime I watch those players dominate in some other team colours.  :rollin

Thanks for proving my point because clearly your view is the hits are the result of everyone else's work and any miss is the fault of one person - seems you want hedge your bets..

Never once did I say "greatest recruiter of all time" but the facts remain that he was involved in the recruitment of players that have won us 3 flags

I know we are going over old ground...

But there are 5 players on the list of 12 that were recruited when the Club had limited resources in recruiting. Those 5 players will go down in history as absolute champions of the RFC... you are saying FJ should take no credit or get any kudos for that but should take all the blame for JONs, Menadues etc

Yes he and the entire recruiting dept in its many forms (under resourced and fully resourced) deserve whacks for what they got wrong but he should get the kudos as well

Forget the 5 just look at Bolton, he was a FJ project, a player he followed and watched from U-16s and I reckon he should get the praise for that one because as 2020 proved we have future star in Bolton... but I also know that doesn't suit your narrative so I'll leave it there

I think FJ is one of the greatest recruiters of all time - he built a list at a time when 2 new teams came into the competition with free agency also introduced and it was freely admitted at the time it was the worst times to bottom out.

I wasn’t a fan of his 10 years ago but the facts are the facts.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
