To be at round 1 and see the unfurling of two premiership flags.

I also hope it’s a better orchestrated event than the underwhelming ‘17 flag unfurling.

Every AFL club’s big Christmas wish for the 2021 season

December 22, 2020
by DAVID ZITA
FOX SPORTS

Christmas is around the corner and wish lists are in full swing as the end of 2020 nears.

From a footy point of view, clubs and fans alike will have at least one standout hope for the 2021 season, no matter how outlandish some may seem.

We’ve pondered what wish might be at the top of every club’s list as the festive season kicks into gear.

RICHMOND

Christmas wish: No Nank troubles

Why: This could’ve easily been ‘more of the same’, but if the Tigers are hoping for one thing it would be Toby Nankervis’ fitness throughout 2021 given Ivan Soldo is out for the foreseeable future. True, the Tigers have done just fine sometimes without a bona fide ruckman, but Nankervis proved his worth (if it even needed proving again) in this year’s finals series with some absolutely spellbinding performances. Callum Coleman-Jones is still young and inexperienced while Mabior Chol won’t offer what Nankervis can as a full-time ruck. If Nank can stay fit, the Tigers are looking good.

Agreed Tigeritis. In 2021, an aboriginal person is in jail for breaching quarantine. Let’s think about how outrageous that is.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

How has the fact he’s aboriginal got anything to do with it?

YOUR CLUB'S ONE CHRISTMAS WISH AHEAD OF THE 2021 SEASON

Andrew Slevison
SEN
23 December 2020

RICHMOND

No negative headlines

There’s not much the Tigers desperately need for Christmas.

On the field, it’s all in order after three flags in four years. But off the field, things could improve.

Another Sydney Stack misdemeanour was certainly not welcomed after a tough year which produced many unwanted headlines.

There was ‘gropegate’, which was strangely not reported as heavily when players from other clubs partook, there was the Gold Coast hub COVID breach by Stack and Callum Coleman-Jones, and there were a few other unnecessary bits and bobs.

As the club focuses on further on-field success, they could do without these distractions, just to keep the name untarnished more than anything.

But all in all, Richmond would be happy with its lot heading into 2021.
