SUNS PREPARED TO SPLIT FOR MORE EARLY PICKSThe Gold Coast Suns are prepared to ‘split’ their prized first-round pick for multiple early draft selections, reports AFL Media.
Foxfooty.com.au reported in June the Suns were willing to offer their natural first draft selection — which has ended up being Pick 3 — to rival clubs during the trade period.
At that stage, the flagged move was a bid to help them lure an experienced rival player — preferably a key forward to partner Ben King — to the club.
At this stage, Richmond, Brisbane and the Giants all hold two first-round picks in this year’s national draft.
With draft experts believing the early part of the 2021 draft pool is relatively even, the Suns could trade Pick 3 away to a rival club with several first-round selections yet was keen to move up the draft order.
Not only do the Suns currently hold Pick 3, they also have Picks 19 and 22, with the first selection part of the assistance package they received from the AFL after the 2019 season, which saw them finish on the bottom of the ladder with just three wins.
However the AFL is now reportedly reviewing that start-of-first-round draft selection.
