Will be interesting to see who gets the 23rd man vest.

Reckon it will be Ross or Pickett

The AFL said the 23rd man would get credited with a game whether or not they actually take the field.

So make Pickett 23rd man so we keep him on track for 100 games  ;D

Imagine if Will Martyn was named as sub and there's no need to substitute him on. He would remember his debut as sitting on the bench for the whole game and not playing.

Cotch has gastro
« Reply #11 on: March 18, 2021, 12:47:16 PM »
Cotch has a bout of gastro.

He missed training yesterday because of it. He may still play tonight but don't be surprised if he's a late out and one of the emergencies comes in.

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin is still in the mix to play in Thursday night’s AFL season opener despite missing training on Wednesday through illness.

Richmond have confirmed to The Age that although Cotchin has been feeling unwell, he is still a chance to line up for the season’s first bounce.

On Thursday morning, the club had said Cotchin was not in doubt for the match but by lunchtime, Richmond were saying the skipper was “very much in the mix”.

But if the 2012 Brownlow medallist has experienced cold and flu symptoms he will be required to return a negative COVID-19 test before arriving at the MCG.

Trent Cotchin gastro serious enough to have him in major doubt for tonight. Won’t know for sure until closer to bounce, but told only an outside chance of getting up. In need of rapid recovery. @7NewsMelbourne @7AFL

It's round 1 so there's no need to play Cotch if he isn't feeling right. We saw what happened when Astbury and others played after suffering gastro in the 2018 Prelim and underperformed. Bring in one of Ross, Martyn or Pickett tonight and then Cotch can return in round 2 next week when he is 100%.
