Dimma's post-game presser was just shown on Ch7:

* Disappointing. Didn't play the way we would've liked to. That is a lot down to Melbourne's pressure but we also didn't handle the perceived pressure which was most disappointing and we discussed that after the game. It's the way you lose that doesn't look great.

* Dusty has concussion. Will miss next week. While he wouldn't say this and would always put his hand up, it's actually good for him to be giving his body a rest as he hasn't been able to be at his explosive best in the last couple of weeks.

* Grimes is okay.

* Dimma was asked if RCD will come into the side next week? He didn't answer the question. Just replied that there will be a number of changes due to the injuries and said the VFL side was disappointing as well. Dimma only saw about a half so he will look at the "tape".

* We had ample chances to kick a winning score tonight but we just didn't. As mentioned we didn't handle the perceived pressure. We're not scoring as we should be from our F50 entries. We need to work on it. Forwards are just as frustrated as Dimma and the coaches are.

* We'd love to be playing better, we're 3-3, we've got injuries but we'll move forward. We've just got play better.

* We kicked 6-12 and missed another 10 shots. We left 5 goals on the goal-line. So despite the scoreboard, Dimma thought our system held up.

* We played too straight and played as if it was a wet game when it wasn't that wet.

* We value post-clearance pressure over pre-clearance as opposed to other sides. You earn your quid in the open. Melbourne were better in terms of the latter. Not sure of the stats for pre & post-clearances.

Only thing Dimma said was he thought Salem was stiff not to get the medal.

Hardwick was disappointed in his side's performance, particularly its capacity to convert its inside-50 entries, handling of the damp conditions and ill-discipline which saw several goals conceded through free kicks.

“It’s tough. We’d love to be going better. There is no doubt about it, we would have loved to have won more games but we can only deal with the facts at hand,” Hardwick said.

“We are three and three, played some tough competition, we’ve got some injuries but we are going to move forward. You can sit there, look back and dwell or you can look to the future and see what it has got to offer.“

Hardwick said the injuries would create opportunities for players with the Tigers VFL team including players such as Riley Collier-Dawkins – who is yet to play a senior game - and ruckman Callum Coleman-Jones who are pushing for selection.

“It’s always a growth mindset for us and someone is getting the opportunity to play a couple of games. We just hope they put their hand up and make us better,” Hardwick said.

Hardwick said the team didn’t handle the conditions as well as Melbourne and succumbed at times to perceived pressure blowing chances to score.

“We gave away some undisciplined free kicks – I think four goals from free kicks – and it has been a constant [problem],” Hardwick said.

“It frustrates me and it frustrates us as a team so we just have to get that part of our game better.“

Dont see the point bringing in young mids playing them out of position  only giving them limited game time and still expect them to put their hands up and make the team better.

I think Dimma is still tweaking the gameplan given the new rules. After the Swans loss he stayed in the box pondering about our defensive failings that day. That now seems corrected. I would say he stayed in the box after the Demons loss pondering our offensive failings. The connection between the mids and forwards has been poor so far this season with the exception of the second half against the Saints. Even against Carlton where we had 30 more inside 50s we only won the game in the last 5 mins instead of being 10 goals up.

As for our cubs, it doesn't help that our VFL side had a shocker on the same day the seniors did  . If our cubs in our ressies had performed similar to the week before then the choice on who is coming in this week would be easy.

To be fair we have brought in some of our younger players this year with Prestia & Floss out but only Mansell has done anything at senior level to keep their spot. Martyn (with a Y) struggled with the tempo of AFL against Port, Ralphsmith would've debuted two weeks ago if he hadn't got reported and now there's word he's injured(?), and Ross has been borderline and has been the sub. It hasn't been like early 2019 where Bolton, Baker, Ross and Stack replaced our injured stars and wowed us in their first few games at the highest level.

Having to play 4 top sides in 5 weeks makes it harder too to pinch wins like we did in 2019 before our stars returned in the second half of the season.
