Fantastic that Gaspar is not given a free ride back in. For all our inaccuracy, we have been able to restrict sides to low enough totals as well as rebound pretty effectively.

As much as I am happy that Ray Hall is doing a job, he has to be one of the scrappiest key defenders going around and I fear that umpires will identify him as a player who pushes the boundaries. He forever seems to take his opponents arms in marking contests, have a hand in the back, spoil over the shoulder etc. How long can he get away with it?

So do I Fluffy  although having Gas and Johnson as emergencies could mean at least one late change. I hope we remain unchanged.   

I don't mind Razor on BBBBH as it'll be our midfield pressure which will mainly decide who comes out on top as both respective forward lines are better than the opposition's backline IMO. Whoever are on O'Loughlin, Goodes, O'Keefe and Davis (if he plays) will need support upfield. Give the Swans small men a free ride and plenty of space and we'll be in trouble. Fortunately our pressure over the past 5 weeks has been pretty good and we have forced the opposition into mistakes.

Richmond has named an unchanged line-up for Saturday's clash against Sydney at Telstra Dome, although the Tigers could make a change and rush back skipper Kane Johnson if he can complete and recover well from Friday's training session at Punt Rd.

At this stage, Johnson has been named an emergency, but Richmond football manager Paul Armstrong said that the captain is not out of the question to play against the Swans.

"We haven't made a change yet. We didn't want to leave anybody out and drop anyone before we knew whether 'Johnno' was right, so he's named in amongst the emergency list and we'll see how he trains tomorrow," Armstrong told richmondfc.com.au.

"If 'Johnno' gets through the session tomorrow (Friday), then we'll have to make a hard decision after that to leave somebody out."

Johnson missed last Saturday night's thrilling two-point win over Essendon at the MCG with a hamstring injury.

Richmond's other two emergencies are full-back Darren Gaspar, who has missed the past three matches with a hamstring injury, and the versatile Daniel Jackson.

Sydney has made just one change for its round seven encounter against the Tigers.

Nick Davis is back after missing two rounds with a hamstring. The Swans have dropped Sean Dempster.

Davis missed Sydney's victories over Geelong and the Brisbane Lions in rounds five and six respectively.

The Swans have named Dempster, Tim Schmidt and Luke Vogels as their emergencies.

Paul Williams will play his 300th AFL match against the Tigers, having also played 189 games for Collingwood from 1991-00.

Ryan O'Keefe also reaches the 100-game milestone this round.

Both sides match-up well on each other. If we can match them in the middle then I can't see any of Barry, Richards, LRT or Bolton having the size, agility and speed to hold back Richo. He normally does well against the Swannies.

Terry Wallace has shed some light on the surprisingly star-studded nature of the Tigers' emergency list heading into their clash with Sydney on Saturday.

Skipper Kane Johnson and first-choice full back Darren Gaspar were named along with Daniel Jackson, and Wallace revealed Gaspar is a chance to regain fitness in the VFL this week.

"Tomorrow it will be four weeks that he's been out and that's a fair time by anyone's measure. I mean the side's won its last three games and if you've been out for four weeks you don't just necessarily walk straight back in," Wallace said of Gaspar's exclusion.

"He's trained now for a week and a half, he's there and available for selection, obviously last night we didn't select him.

"We'll have to see how he pulled up after the training regime, but if he's right for selection, yes he will (play for Coburg)."

As for Johnson, Wallace said he wanted to give his captain every chance to play without disrupting the preparation of a young player who would have come out of the side to make way for the skipper.

"He's not right to play - if our captain was right to play we would've picked him in the side, but we wanted to give him every opportunity to come up," he said.

"We didn't select him in the side because we had some young boys who we didn't think deserved to get dropped when they were more likely than not to play.

"It's not the player - you can speak to the player about where he's going - it's the family that don't get the opportunity to hear that. All of a sudden this kid's been dropped when he's done OK for us - we just didn't want to go down that path - we thought we'd give Kane every chance, so we put him on the emergency list, but he didn't come up."

Wallace was looking forward to pitting his young Tigers against the Swans and agreed it was a huge challenge for his club to extend its three-game winning run.

"They're the premiers - of course it is - no doubt that's the case," he said.

"Our first three games were against what you would say are top-eight sides - we weren't able to get a victory - then we played three sides outside the eight and we managed to beat them.

"I think what that says is that's about where we're at at the moment. We can beat the ones inside the eight, we haven't been able to beat the ones inside the eight. Sydney are inside the eight, this is our next challenge."

The Tigers' coach paid tribute to veteran Swan Paul Williams who will play his 300th AFL game on Saturday and said the battle-hardened nature of the Sydney unit would test his side.

"There's a heck of a lot more experience running out for them, but that's what our boys want - those sort of opportunities to play against the best side in the competition last year," he said.

 Tigers rule out Johnson

RICHMOND has ruled out captain Kane Johnson from the AFL match against Sydney at Telstra Dome tomorrow, but fullback Darren Gaspar might be a late inclusion in the team.

The experienced pair, who have both been out with hamstring injuries, put on contrasting displays at Punt Road Oval today, in the Tigers' final training session for the week.

Johnson was out on the track but barely participated in any drills before heading to the rooms halfway through the session.

But Gaspar, who has missed the past three matches, trained strongly, and the Tigers match committee will be tempted to slot him into the side to match up on star Sydney forward Barry Hall.

Gaspar kept Hall goalless the last time the two sides met, when Richmond won by one point, but Tigers coach Terry Wallace played down the possibility of making a late change.

"He got through everything," Wallace said.

"He's trained now for a week-and-a-half so he's there and available for selection. Obviously last night we didn't select him.

"He's an emergency, he's not in the side.

"Tomorrow will be four weeks that he's been out, that's a fair time in anyone's measure.

"We've had a look at the side.

"The side's won its last three games.

"When you've been out for four weeks, you don't necessarily just walk straight back in."

Wallace said Johnson had never had more than an outside chance of playing.

"We thought we'd give Kane every chance," he said.

"We put him on the emergency list and he just wasn't right to come up."

Wallace said tomorrow's match was an important test of Richmond's ranking.

The Tigers lost their first three matches of the season, against finals contenders Western Bulldogs, St Kilda and West Coast, then defeated the bottom three sides - Brisbane Lions, Carlton and Essendon

"What it says is that's about where we're at at the moment," Wallace said.

"We can beat the ones outside the eight, we haven't been able to beat the ones inside the eight.

"Sydney are inside the eight. This will be our next challenge.

"We've always played reasonably well against them, but in saying that they've got a couple of pretty good milestones.

"Obviously Paul Williams, a fantastic effort, 300 games, and even from the Richmond perspective, we'd like to acknowledge that fact ... so from our point of view we know their blokes will be on."

RICHMOND captain Kane Johnson is no longer on the emergency list for today's match against Sydney — but he won't be playing. And full-back Darren Gaspar won't play at Telstra Dome, either, although he is fit.

Johnson (hamstring) barely wandered through a training session yesterday in which he had hoped to press his case for a late return to the side and coach Terry Wallace admitted he would not play.

"He is not right to play," Wallace said.

"If our captain was right to play we'd have picked him in the side but we wanted to give him every opportunity of coming up."

Wallace said the Tigers had "some young boys in the side we didn't think deserved to get dropped". Johnson was replaced by Luke McGuane on the emergency list yesterday.

Gaspar, traditionally the club's first-choice full-back and the man with the best credentials and record to tackle Swans spearhead Barry Hall, will play for Coburg in the VFL.

If Richo doesn't come up then that would leave either Jacko or McGuane to come in. Sheesh if McGuane came in it would be our 4th debutant in 3 weeks  .
