Dimma post-game:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hardwick said he thought the Tigers' training wasn't at their usual standard in the build-up to the game after last week's bye but said his side was "incredibly poor".

"We're off the pace at the moment, there's no doubt about that. We've got some work to do to try and catch up to those sides ahead of us. We've just got to make sure we play our brand and make sure we bring our brand week in, week out because at the moment we're too inconsistent," Hardwick said.

Richmond was held goalless in the first and final quarters against the Saints and managed just two majors in between.

"I'd like to think we're a proud football club and we don't let people down too often, we don't let our fans down, but I thought tonight we just didn't fire a shot. It was incredibly disappointing. Generally we surge at some stage but it never really happened," Hardwick said.

"A lot of credit goes to the Saints, they played some really good footy, but I was disappointed that at no stage tonight we probably challenged a side that we thought we could beat."

More from Dimma:

* We couldn't get our hands on the ball. Minus 16 in contested ball in our backline. So their forwards were a handful as well. We knew how they wanted to play with surge football through the contest. We just couldn't control possession behind the ball which is disappointing. These are the lessons we learn and we get better. We are well off the pace at the moment.

* The significance of some of the injuries has been catastrophic if that makes sense. Just the nature of the players. We just can't that connection when they come back into the side. We get players back then we have players going out. So we're just not playing as well as we would like but mainly to the due the connection of our onfield performance with regard to our players' ability. Some sides get hit harder at stages and we're going through that at the moment. We've just got to play better. We've got some capable personnel playing at the lower level that I look forward to watching and we'll see

* Lynch may come back next week or the week after. [Tim Livingstone told Jon Ralph that we want to give Lynch two full training sessions before coming back and given we're playing on the Thursday night he'll return the week after].

* Nank is a few weeks away.

Not sure what our "brand" is any more because it seems that trying to evolve has us in a void between brands. We are your little coastal supermarket black and yellow no name brand based on what we witnessed last night.

For the most part it was only missing the Benny Hill background music. Looked like a bunch of guys who came together Friday morning for a social game of footy Friday night followed by a pub crawl afterwards.

Zero effort to score last night. At some point you have to move the ball forward to kick goals, I felt like I was watching Joel Bowden again racking up 50 uncontested possessions with -200 meters gained.

The other teams have figured us out a bit too. St Kilda filled the forward space very well all night and when the ball came to ground in the 50 they kept filling the space which was very disciplined footy.
