LEPPITSCH OUTLINES HIS "REAL" AND "GENUINE" CONCERN ABOUT RICHMOND

By Laurence Rosen

Former Richmond assistant coach Justin Leppitsch says he has a “genuine concern” about where the Tigers are at following their 40-point loss to St Kilda on Friday night.

Damien Hardwick’s side slumped their seventh loss of the season, kicking just two goals on a cold and slippery night at the MCG.

Leppitsch said the heavy defeat was “un-Richmond-like”, saying a combination of injuries piling up and a lack of depth meant he was “concerned” the club wouldn’t be able to win enough games to genuinely challenge for the premiership this year.

“That (result on Friday night) was different wasn’t it,” he said on SEN’s Crunch Time.

“I’ve seen a couple of different things from Richmond this year, that was one loss they don’t usually have.

“You don’t see them get overrun like they did against the Eagles a few weeks ago when they had a healthy margin with eight minutes to go. That’s un-Richmond-like.

“Then a game (like against St Kilda) is very un-Richmond-like, they have a few concerns and they don’t have the wins banked to make these kind of mistakes.

“They’re going to have to do it from the bottom half of the eight and that’s going to be more difficult.

“I think their best team is still pretty good, not only the bad loss but when you lose two mainstays in Noah Balta and Nathan Broad (to serious injuries)…the depth is now falling to first-year rookies like Sampson Ryan and guys like that.

“They’re really lacking depth and I’m concerned they’re not going to bank the wins.

“That’s a real, genuine concern.”
