Game plan outdated LLoydy? Need to move on Dimma?

Last time he was taking pot shots at us, we won a flag within 12 months!

Can't stand either of them but nothing they said was actually wrong.... :shh

100% correct and not only do the stats back it up the eye test confirms it.
We look and feel like a bottom side.

That clip on FC shows why we've been struggling. All 3 examples had Tiger hands on the ball first before Brayshaw ended up with it.

1. After Prestia is tackled, the ball spills and Short runs over the footy allowing Freo to win the clearance out of the centre square.

2. Baker handballs a hospital pass to Ross who was set up under the hammer and got crunched. Turnover.

3. Bolton goes one handed at the loose ball from the stoppage while Brayshaw gets his full body behind it and wins the clearing kick to ice the game.

This is not to single out these Tiger players. Most of the team has dropped off in their intensity during games and from week to week. Picking and choosing when to go in hard or not at contests. Previous years we would've put out body in to desperately win the pill but this year there's been too many of these loose half-efforts. Combine these with poor basic skills across a game and it adds up to the ordinary footy and the losses we've witnessed especially over the past two months.

It's why when Jack says we played some good footy against Freo we all sit there and scratch our heads  :huh3. Our players probably think they are trying and playing to our gameplan but everyone else can see what is badly missing and why we are breaking down and losing most contests against even bottom sides. Don't bring that intensity, desperation and workrate even against sides you should beat and you'll end up with your tail between your legs.

The focus of the last 3 H/A games should be about bringing back that intensity at the contest. Do that as a team across 4 quarters and the rest will take care of itself.

Great post MT. The question is why has the intensity dropped off?

Is the hunger gone or is it the leadership?

In seasons gone by we have seen Cotch really set the tone for the team (think of tackles on Mumford + Stanley etc).

Good question, Andyy.

Could be all or some of those reasons you mentioned plus ageing bodies, injuries and a lack of cohesion due to multiple changes each week. Dimma mentioned fatigue (both mental and physical) last week.

Allan Jeans during the 1989 GF asked his Hawks if they were willing to 'pay the price'. Putting your body on the line in contests risks you coming off second best. Even retired champions admit they pulled out of a contest at least once in their career. It takes courage to cross the line at AFL level. Even subconsciously a player at any time may not be willing to 'pay the price' and goes with a half-hearted effort instead.

As for Cotch (and admittedly I've got no hard evidence to back this opinion up), I'm suspicious he is protecting his hammies by not trying to extend himself. At times since coming back into the side he hasn't sprinted nor chased as hard once an opposition mid has got clear of a stoppage. I also wonder if that was the reason he didn't take that shot from 40m out against Freo.

Absolutely. He is avoiding long kicking, especially on his right.

Same with Prestia not taking his shot and wasting it with a kick to Bolton.
