Hugo Ralphsmith & Will Martyn sign new deals (RFC)
« on: August 11, 2021, 06:31:27 PM »
Richmond youngsters and 2021 senior debutants Hugo Ralphsmith and Will Martyn have penned fresh deals to remain at the Club beyond this season.

Ralphsmith, 19, signed a two-year extension, keeping him at the Club until the end of the 2023 season, while Martyn, 20, has committed for 2022.

------------

Richmond General Manager - Football Talent, Blair Hartley said the young duo had relished the opportunity to be back playing regular football after only having scrimmage matches in their debut seasons.

“Even with the challenges of last year, Will and Hugo have impressed since first arriving at the Club,” he added.

“Both players have been working hard on their craft, and it has been fantastic to see them rewarded with senior opportunities this year.

“We are really excited by what both Will and Hugo can achieve in the future and are delighted to have them commit to Richmond.”

Martyn deserves another year at least, as do Biggie and Cumberland etc.

Ralphsmith  :thumbsup

Martiyn

:clapping good result for them and us. Why not happy with Will? Has shown enough in his first 2 years to suggest he has every chance of becoming an AFL mid.

More nonplussed than unhappy at this point...looks slow and unskilled but I was bullish on him last year based mainly on scratch match reports & training photos where he looked almost as big as his his differently spelt namesake...was quite shocked to see a relatively slight figure when I finally got to see him play(Were the photos deceiving or was told to lose the bulk like Ross & Arnott?..but he somehow looked a few cms shorter as well so maybe it was the former)....hope he comes good like Lambert did after his underwhelming first two years... :shh

Martyn was picked up in 2019 then had no VFL all 2020, just crappy scratch matches with Phil Inns.

2021 not much better.
