We didn't need ball magnets in our glory years, but we could do with a couple now.
We didn't need them as our post-clearance work use to be our strength but now it's a liability. We just look lost for ideas especially when the opposition get a run on. We're flat-footed, reactive and don't function as a midfield group. We too often panic and our numbers get sucked into the honey pot which leaves the opposition with numbers on the rim of contests to win the clearances. It wasn't just tactical and stats. Carlton were just harder at the footy inside and our tackling was poor. Which is why we gave away too many frees. Sad to say but we were soft tonight. Just 32 team tackles for a whole game is 1.5 per Tiger. That's pathetic. Not good enough!

I sensed this coming. We don’t have enough young midfield talent. We are relying on aging warriors while other teams are getting better, like Carlton with Cerra and Hewitt. It’s not surprising though. We haven’t had access to good picks because we’ve been challenging for flags. The system is designed this way. Three flags is a great return. It looks like we need to rebuild now which is completely understandable.

We looked gassed in the last half of that Q. We really need some younger guys to push players like Aarts and Castagna out of the side if there is any chance of beating sides in the top 8.

Sometimes you can overthink things. In my view, we were outhunted - both for the pill and the man when the Blues had possession. Our lowest tackle count since 2015 says it all really.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

We played like dumb, arrogant twats, didn't tackle, conceded roughly 13 goals in two bursts of about 12 minutes each and yet we were leading by 20 points with 20 minutes to go. Not all doom and gloom.

Not the best of nights up in the coaches box.

We're getting smashed on the centre in the final qtr and Dusty is watching on from the F50.

Edwards,  Bolton hardly took a centre ball up. But Aarts did, I mean seriously?

Cotch sadly was a liability at times in the middle. Jack R was MIA for most of the game

The Soldo up forward while Nank was in the ruck simply didn't work.

And just on Nank, not a good game for our new skipper.

It was a really poor night on so many fronts.

Will be interesting to see what they do at the selection table

Nearly everything that gave us premierships is non existent.

Pressure gone, tackling gone, forward 50 tackling gone.  :help

As pee weak in the contest as I've seen since the nadir of the bad old days...and our tackling issues still haven't been addressed....a lot of things wrong, not to mention disturbingly familiar to the second half of last year, about this loss....but even with all that, if Prestia doesn't get injured we still would've won and quite comfortably...so stuff Carlton ... :shh

Carlton +38 contested possessions, +18 clearances, +24 inside-50s and tackles I50 were 14-1. That was a mauling.

The game was lost at the selection table eg selection of Aarts. We need to get games into the younger players eg Rioli Jnr, Dow, RCD, Miller. We were smashed in the middle. Kicking it long to a crowded a forward line where we can't trap the ball in after it goes to ground is a major problem. Need x factor of Stack.
