Tom Green
« on: October 12, 2021, 03:47:52 PM »
Garry Lyon was intrigued by Blair Hartley's comments about Tom Green.

Watch here: https://twitter.com/SENBreakfast/status/1447782328424488960

Lyon: "Have you ever made enquiries to the Giants about Tom Green?"

Hartley: "Ah, no not directly. He's contracted up there so I've got to be very careful talking about contracted players. I know he's very happy although his family is strongly connected with Richmond. We've got to respect that he is contracted and where he is right now."

This could be the reason that 1. we are saying our TPP are maxed out (because we have brought forward current contracts or signed new contracts with larger up front payments) and 2 we are going to take our picks to the draft (new kids are on minimum contracts for two years.

Big play next year

MEETING BETWEEN RICHMOND CEO AND GRANDFATHER OF TOM GREEN RAISES EYEBROWS

BY SEN
30 March 2022

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale has been spotted meeting with four-time premiership player Michael Green, who also happens to be the grandfather of gun GWS Giants on-baller Tom Green.

Tom is out of contract at the Giants at the end of 2023 and his family connection to the Tigers has long fuelled speculation he could one day don the yellow and black.

Speaking on Sportsday, Sam McClure said he was told this week that Gale had met with Tom’s grandfather Michael at a Melbourne cafe, something which caught the eye of a few people.

“It was put to me today that Brendon Gale was having lunch with Michael Green, who is of course a four-time premiership ruckman and the grandfather of GWS midfielder Tom.

“He’s out of contract (at the end of 2023) isn’t he? The Giants need to get one of these midfielders (because of salary cap issues).”

“That makes me very happy inside,” Richmond great Matthew Richardson added.

The 21-year-old has started the 2022 season in fine form, averaging 32.5 touches and 5.5 marks so far this year.

Gerard Healy said Green could even be used as a forward, floating the possibly of switching forward Harry Himmelberg to defence to accommodate the change.

“He was a boy last year and now he’s a man,” he said.

“He could play out of the goal square easily, in fact they should put Harry Himmelberg to centre half-back and put Tom Green out of the goal square.”

I'm not sure Toms grandad is deciding his future. Pure coincidence I'd say

McClure is a grub.  He cleaned his act up for a while but seems like now he is looking to replace Tommy Morris at Fox and hence acting accordingly.  stuffwit

Kid will be so expensive when the time comes.

Should have tried sooner before he had so many runs on the board

As much as I'd like Green here right now, the sensible thing to do would be to stay patient, hit the draft hard again this year (KPF's & Mids please) then get Green & an FA or two at the end of next year... :shh

Well the club is definitely into Green.....whether or not that cup of coffee has anything to do with it is another matter entirely... :shh

Hes a good young player but I dont think hes as good as many of our supporters make out. Lacks leg speed is just one issue.

I am sure our Club like many others are looking at Tom Green

But to link Benny Gale having coffee with Michael Green as some sort recruiting exercise is grubby

Michael Green is a legend of our club, a bloke of great integrity and very well respected. He deserves better than some journo grasping at lattes to generate a stroy

Twomey expects the Giants to keep hold of emerging young midfielder Tom Green.

“He (Green) has got another year to go on his contract,” he said.

“As I said before, contracts don’t always mean anything if club and player are happy to move, but I don’t see them moving him at this point.”

Trade watch: Big three clubs in rush for signatures

Collingwood is working busily to make sure it keeps a number of its rising stars locked away, while St Kilda needs to tie down a key prime mover and Richmond looks to welcome back a giant.
