Gale said coach Damien Hardwick had been poring over data in the off-season “trying to get a sense of why we didn’t perform as well last year”.

“We have got a handle on that. The next part is how we are going to change and respond. But he has got a real thirst for knowledge and improvement, he is extremely driven,” Gale said.

“Like the players, he will be rested and very driven for success going forward.”

The 2021 problems stemmed from the exhaustion and the level of injuries.

Would suggest that the players should be refreshed and motivated for consistent high level performances through 2022. Therefore it would only take some minor adjustments to the actual play

RICHMOND

The Tigers have put their 2021 flame-out down to injuries and exhaustion, having had four straight deep finals runs, for three premierships. They had just two wins from their last 10 matches, and were ranked last on the AFL form ladder from round 13. In that time, they also ranked last in scores from clearance differential, 17th for contested possession differential and 15th for converting inside 50s into a score. The absence of Dustin Martin hurt, but he is back from a kidney injury and, according to club CEO Brendon Gale, shapes as a captaincy contender.
