Richmond youngster Josh Gibcus has furthered his commitment to the Club by adding an extra season to his existing contract.
Gibcus, 21, signed on until the end of 2025 during his debut season in 2022, with the fresh extension tying him away for an additional year.
The former No. 9 draft pick has excited Richmond fans across 20 games, standing out with his obvious key position talent.
Gibcus played 18 games, including a final in his debut 2022 campaign, before a significant pre-season hamstring injury saw him miss all of 2023.
The youngster then put together a strong off-season to return in excellent condition for the 2024 campaign before a ruptured ACL in the Round 1 game against Carlton ended his season prematurely.
Gibcus was immediately a part of Adem Yze’s first-choice defence, the same role he excelled in across the 2022 campaign.
The 196cm talent with high athleticism and a long, penetrating kick also showed ability as a forward on occasion in his debut year with the Club, kicking handy goals across multiple games.
'I'm excited for what the future holds' - Gibcus
Richmond General Manager, Football Talent, Blair Hartley, said the Club had great faith in Gibcus’ prospects.
“Josh has been working hard behind the scenes in our rehabilitation program and with the talent that he has got and the hard work that he continues to put in he will come out the other side an even better player,” Hartley said.
“He is a big part of our future, so we are thrilled to have him commit further to Richmond and are excited to have him back on the field in 2025 and beyond.”
