Lot of ifs in there.

Sonsie hasn’t done any match sim. He’s a second year player. I think they’re pretty well justified not throwing him straight into the cauldron in round 1.

Gibcus is injured. Suspect that’ll keep him out until around the bye rounds and even then will have to win his spot over Tarrant, Balta, Broad and Grimes.

Clarke impressed in the preseason and seems likely to be rewarded with a place in round 1.

Brown is injured and banks hasn’t come close to winning a spot in the seniors yet.

As for Miller and Ryan. Agree 1 needs to be playing the second ruck/resting fwd role. You’ve got to accept that you are in a very small minority that thinks we should be playing all of Lynch, Jack, Nank, Miller and Ryan. You’ve been presenting this opinion like it’s the general consensus but I really haven’t seen many if any agree. That is one tall too many imo. 3 permanent tall forwards + the resting ruck makes us even more pedestrian down there then we showed we were in the preseason. Can already imagine teams rebounding out of there with ease. Jury is out on jack having another season in him, but tbh if he wasn’t going around again I would be inclined to trial Lynch and Dusty as the CHF/FF partnership and instead have another small or mid in as jacks replacement. Say what you will about Dusty’s form over the last couple of seasons, it would take a brave brave defender to leave him to go and double team Lynch. That is Ofcourse unless a tall on our list shows that they are better placed in that role which you may be right in that we won’t really know this unless we trial them at afl level.

Sonsie would be in my team ahead of several.

He's one guy that should be squeezed out due to Taranto + Hopper. Would be happy for Graham or Ross to miss out on the other hand.

Cmon Andy you lot rave on about the Lambert role but i can tell ya neither Taranto or Hopper are there to do that role.
Sonsie is absolutely ideal for it and further to that you want him being looked for all the time because he is so how to say it skilled.

Take another look Andy its not Taranto or Hopper coming to the club keeping Sonsie out of the team.
Its the absurd notion that we need to find new roles for older players to keep getting games. That imo is down to a coach who has become too close to his older players and can no longer be objective.

I made a typo.

Meant to say SHOULDN'T be squeezed out haha.

Makes sense if you read the rest of my post.

Sonsie just needs to bide his time. Cotchin will get to 300 games and then that will be it for him.

Personally I am over this 300 game milestone and babying players to get to it, Di you really think Cotchin cares about it even if to the detriment of the team??

And it might take the  whole season to get there.
Yeah we're already going to vote for him mate, you don't need to keep selling it.....

Unlikely he cares about it and tbf no one from the club has mentioned it to my knowledge. It's just something that's gone around on here and grown legs from there, but I haven't heard of it being a motivator outside of the site.

It's pretty insulting really.

Cotch was great for most of last year and deserved to go on if he wanted to, which he did in the end. If he isn't good enough to be in the 22 he shouldn't be picked, if he is (and I think he still is) then he'll play. 300 games was never on anyones radar until some clown on here brought it up

Whatever happened to picking the best player for the role or in this case best players because when it comes to forwards there are plenty in front of cotchin.

What’s wrong with bringing up that cotch is closing in on game 300.

Becoming only the what 6th player in Richmond history to hit 300 games + a 3 time premiership captain will be an amazing accomplishment and I personally would love to be there live to see it.

Has anyone actually said he should be carried to game 300? The way I see it he more then earned another year contract last season and decided to play on for one last crack at a premiership. Now the cliff can come very quickly as we saw with edwards last season but I’m not prepared to write him off based on a couple of meaningless preseason practice matches.

Agree with everything you just said. There’s just been a few comments from others that indicate we’ll get him to 300 and that’s all she wrote. It’s just unfounded

Cotchin was excellent in 2022.

Playing on purely from merit, milestone or not.

There's space in the side for Sonsie if the club wants to play him. I want them to play him but suspect the club will give him a few VFL games before calling him up, maybe aim for 12-15+ games this year.

I'm expecting to see Sonsie back into the team about round 4. That would give him the time to regain his fitness and form at VFL level and for the club to begin rotating some of our players such as Graham and Short for Sonsie and Ross. Dow will also be given a run.

With our depth, I would imagine that we rotate plenty of players this year, especially our older brigade. Sonsie will be the beneficiary of this and, if he steps up when that opportunity arises, he won't leave the team from that point on. It's really up to Graham, Mansell and Short to keep their spots now through exceptional play. I can't see it happening.

300 games or 500 games who gives a poo? He only plays if he warrants his spot. Atm he warrants his spot as a mid and only as a mid. iI we play him as a fwd then no  HE SHOULD NOT GET A GAME. Just play the best option. It aint hard to work out it really isnt.

Cotchin plays 300th no questions asked. If we carried Edwards we carry Cotchin 1000%

Probably time to move the Cotch chat out.

Anyone know how Sonsie went in the VFL?
