They always do in that position but I’d rather him than Shorty.
I sometimes think the poster confuses the position and role the player has vs the player themself. He’s not quite damaging enough but he will do replacing Shorty for the time being

Banks pays out

Sam Banks produced the best performance of his 29-game career in Richmond’s third win of the season over West Coast.

The Tasmanian played a pivotal role with a career-high 28 disposals in an outing that included six marks, five inside 50s and five rebound 50s.

Banks had 25 effective disposals, 19 kicks at 89 per cent efficiency and 660 metres gained which is also a career high.

He was rewarded with nine coaches votes, so it’s clear that Adem Yze and Andrew McQualter didn’t miss his display.

The 22-year-old can still work on his physicality but his outside run and distribution was at its very best on Sunday at the MCG.

Banksy backed up his effort from last week. Got praised by Yze post-match.

4 marks
2 tackles
5 inside 50s
589m gained
2 intercepts
4 score involvements
1 behind
82% gametime

I watched him more closely this week and was impressed.

He's playing shorts role and doing a better job of it

Happy with him.

Do people from Tassie even want to go back once they’ve left? Lol

Why would we want to get rid of good experienced players? I don’t want 5 top 20 picks in 2028

More to the point, who’d wanna go through two consecutive rebuilds?

Keep looking, I agree with Andyyyy he’s getting better every week. Unlike Shorty who he has gone past, we have not seen his ceiling

Richmond youngster thriving in new role following injury to premiership player

Richmond's Sam Banks has gone from strength to strength in his new role across half-back in the absence of premiership rebounder Jayden Short.

Banks has been building into his career at the Tigers since being drafted with Pick 29 in the 2021 National Draft, putting together 32 games to date.

But the 22-year-old, who has been utilised in multiple positions over the past three years, has "found his niche" in the defensive set-up.

The past month has yielded an impressive average of 26.5 disposals, 6.5 marks, 4.5 rebound 50s, 5 score involvements and 4 inside 50s, with his form catching the eye of his coach. In that span, Short has been missing with a calf issue.

"He's been really impressive," Richmond coach Adem Yze said.

"We've moved him around a little bit, too. He's played wing, but he's found his niche.

"Obviously unfortunate that (Jayden) Short has gone out, but Banksy has been able to slot into half back. He played it as a kid, and he's doing it really well.

"A lot of our first-year players are getting a lot of the media attention, but Bansky has played 30 games, and he's still finding his way.

"We're loving his progression. We're loving that group of players that have been drafted around the same time, and they're driving a standard footy club. So Banksy is slowly becoming a leader around the club, and we're really proud of him."

every one keeps saying look at the role claw look at the role.

First let me say he is a far far better option than Short who should never get another game.

Going missing in games a bit soft avoids a bit of contact not enough ball just a few of his criticisms and not just me plenty of people along his journey

people were saying his back half last year he improved. I thought maybe but it would be minimal.

I looked at his last 7 games and he averaged 16 disposals a game it was up on the 8.5 he averaged for the first half albeit he was sub a fair few times.
In most other areas there was incremental improvement not a lot but enough.  He was still having issues though with not enough ball imo and not enjoying physical contact and even his kicking at times.
Still enough to say he improved. All good so far

His first seven games this year were not dissimilar to the back end last year. Then came the Short injury nearly all areas stayed the similar but his disposal numbers went through the roof along with meters gained and significant rebound improvement.
Now back to the original statement
Look at the role

Is his current improvement down to the role in this case Shorts old role where Short had good numbers in these things but clearly lacked in other areas.

To be honest im not sure of where Banks is at given the role he is currently playing.  i do know though he is a better option than Short in that role. While i would like him to more physical and better defensively while he is keeping Short out of the team im happy.
