RCD clearance. Good pick up by MRJ but his snap is OOTF.

Again on transition from defence the Blacks set up another scoring opportunity. Caddy finds Hicks (VFL) 30 out. Goal!

Blacks  16.12-108
Yellows   5.5-35

Bests:

Blacks: Baker, Cotch, Prestia, Bolton, Nank, Mansell, Broad, Caddy.

Yellows: Hard given it was a one-sided scoreline and their forward line and structure was non-existent. RCD, Sonsie, Gibcus, Soldo and Ross were arguably the Yellows better players.

It was a typical training run, nothing meant much.
But there were a few pleasing stand-outs - RCD impacted against the odds, Gibcus & Sonsie both showed a bit, Soldo had a run & looked ok, Baker was fantastic at times.  Biggy did well.
Downers - D.Rioli looked bored & couldn't be bothered, Stack iffy, MRJ went missing too often, George could've had 10 (but kicked 1), Grimes should never wear a visor cos it makes his nose look bigger (even without the Hamburglar mask).    ;D
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!  Loud, proud & dangerous!

FORGOTTEN MIDFIELDER RETURNS TO FORM IN TIGERS INTRA-CLUB

By Seb Mottram
SEN
19 Feb 2022

Dustin Martin sat out Richmond’s Saturday intra-club game, but multiple other midfielders showed their prowess in the competitive hit-out.

It’s understood Martin has an adductor niggle, with the club opting to be cautious with their Brownlow Medallist.

However, that opened the door for on-ballers Dion Prestia and Trent Cotchin to be most impressive at Punt Road.

Cotchin, 31, hasn’t been at his brilliant best in recent years, but Saturday’s form could suggest he’s ready to get back to one of the competition’s top-echelon without the weight of the captaincy.

Meanwhile, Prestia has suffered a tough run with injury to manage just 14 games across the last two seasons.

The 2019 best and fairest winner has undergone a full pre-season leading into 2022 and may also be primed to showcase his best football in the coming season.

“He looked good today, Dion … the more we can have him on the park, the better we are going to be. He is a great leader for us and it was a great start for him (on Saturday),” assistant coach Andrew McQualter said, via News Corp.

Other standouts for the Tigers included Liam Baker kicking four goals and new defensive duo Robbie Tarrant and Josh Gibcus plying their trade across the backline, impressing the coaching staff.

“What a good guy to learn off for Josh … Robbie is such an experienced player and we are rapt to have him,” McQualter said,

“We think they are going to form a good relationship for a good period of time.”

The club’s eyes now turn to next Saturday’s practice game against Geelong at GMHBA stadium.

They hope that Martin and Tom Lynch – who also missed Saturday’s scratch match – will be both available to take on the Cats.

“Dustin was pretty close to playing, (it) was a slight hip issue and we expect him to be fine next week,” McQualter added.

“’Lynchy’ … was pretty much at 100 per cent running. He probably could have played today. But it was not worth running the risk for an intra-club at this time of the year with those guys.

“Both look like they will be available next week. It will be a first-game (of the preseason) for them. Over the years we have always built our guys up, and it will be the same for them.”

The Age's report on our intra-club:

Richmond looked sharp in the first half of their intra-club, with the only downside being a leg injury to mid-season selection Matthew Parker, who limped off late in the game. McQualter said the former Saint would have scans on his foot to determine the extent of the injury.

Their new defenders, veteran Robbie Tarrant and first-round draft selection Josh Gibcus, impressed, with McQualter saying Gibcus would learn playing alongside the former Kangaroo. He played down the prospect of Gibcus making his debut in round one, saying it was too early to tell, although he has not put a foot wrong in his first pre-season.

“We think they [Tarrant and Gibcus] are going to hopefully form a really good relationship for a long period of time,” McQualter said.

Midfielder Dion Prestia was outstanding after a strong pre-season as he looks to have an injury-free season following a frustrating couple of years. He has played just 18 games in the past two seasons, although he was a key player in the 2020 premiership when he returned for the finals series.

McQualter said he did not want to curse the best-and-fairest winner who is a critical player in the Tigers’ line-up, but he agreed that his performance was a highlight.

“The more we can have him on the park, the better we can be,” McQualter said of Prestia.

Richmond are trialling premiership defender Noah Balta up forward after recruiting Tarrant. McQualter said the Tigers can see plenty of potential in the 22-year-old, who played inside the forward 50 early in his career before being forced back when Alex Rance retired.

Ivan Soldo also played after missing 2021 recovering from an ACL injury. McQualter described him as “the forgotten man”, with Soldo having played in back-to-back premierships in tandem with new co-captain Toby Nankervis.

Competition for spots will be on, with Riley Collier-Dawkins and Jack Ross impressive as they attempt to break into the Tigers’ strong midfield.

Sydney Stack looked fit, and despite giving away two 50-metre penalties he has not lost his class in tight.

Anyone know what Mansell's injury was?
