Gale, however, is bullish about the Tigers’ prospects in the upcoming season.

“One of the things we do well as a footy club is we fail well. There’s no point just failing and not grasping the lessons that you’re served up,” Gale said on SEN.

“We reflect, we review, and we renew.

“We’ve taken a lot out of last year . . . We had the time to reflect and to gather those really important insights, the evidence, the data, and then adjust, change and reposition accordingly.

“I’m not sure where that takes us, of course, but I feel very strongly that we’ll respond.

“I can see the narrative that’s been written for us. It’s Richmond are done. They’ve climbed the mountain and they’re on the way down.

“I sense that, and I know that’s how the media works. But that’s not us . . .

“We’re a proud group and we’ll respond.”
