The Giants' strength is in their midfield which is now our weakness with the likes of Prestia and Lambert missing. It could get ugly like round 22 last year if we dish up what we did against Carlton in the 2nd and 4th quarters and GWS score as efficiently as they are doing against the Swans right now :help.

We haven't started a season 0-2 since 2012. The last time we made finals after losing the first two games of a season was way back in 1940. So it's a season defining game.

Hopefully we bring some pressure to the ball carrier. We’ve never been a clearance team but system and pressure. We need to force turnover and we need proper tackling.

That’s our thing! We used to be so good at teams were fumbling with implied pressure all the time we were in their heads within minutes of gif first bounce.
We need to get back to this.

I’m expecting a big change this week in this department.

1 tackle inside forward 50 isn’t what got us premierships so expecting some major improvements in this area also.

If we don’t improve on these Richmond fundamentals it’s going to be a long season.
The club that keeps giving.

Have to give players credit for climbing the mountain thrice but can’t support a playing group that tackles 31 times and gives away 8 50’s.
Double the tackles and remove the 50’s and I’ll take whatever result falls our way
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

100% agree. That was the most annoying part of the Thursday.

Did you see the description of the giants/swans game? Hard nosed tackling and pressure that reminded me of how we used to play. There wasnt a player on the field who had more than a few seconds to dispose of the ball.

Giants will bring this, and if we duplicate anything close to 30 tackles we are gone.

PREVIEW: Richmond v GWS (Sunday - 3:20pm - MCG)

Lachlan Geleit
SEN
23 March 2022

The two finals contenders will be desperate for a win here after both losing their respective Round 1 fixtures.

Richmond were ran over the top of late by a revitalised Carlton outfit, while GWS were reasonable in defeat to a strong Sydney side.

This will be the first time these two sides have met at the MCG since the 2019 Grand Final, but it’s the Giants who have held sway head-to-head since they were dismantled by Richmond on that fateful day.

GWS have won two of the last three against Richmond since that encounter, also claiming the last match-up by 39 points in 2021 at Marvel Stadium.

In that clash, the Giants got it inside 50 more than their opponents and were ultimately more efficient when they got there - they’ll be hoping to go about this one in similar fashion.

One key area of dominance for the Giants in this battle is their midfield, particularly as Richmond will be without Dion Prestia.

Without Prestia, Richmond will need to bounce back from a poor on-ball performance in Round 1, that’s easier said than done against the likes of Tom Green, Tim Taranto, Jacob Hopper, Josh Kelly, Callan Ward and Stephen Coniglio.

While the Tigers will back in their system to get the job done, it’s tough to see them getting close to drawing level in the centre of the ground.

Expect a strong response from Richmond, but GWS should win this game if their midfield unit controls the stoppage and wins the clearance battle.

Tip: GWS by 14 points.

Rumours floating around that Bolton's right and will miss the game as well... :help

Dimma said in his presser Bolton will definitely play

Will do most of today's main session but not all. Have "managed" him this week training wise so he is 100% game day

Jesse Hogan is set to return this Sunday against Richmond. Ticked off training today, just needs to pull up well tomorrow. Nick Haynes also looks ready to go again after struggling with a stomach problem in the past month. More to come @AFLcomau
