Dusty awarded best on ground.

Dimma and Cotch hold up the cup.

Same old same old ;D.

Seriously though Cotch showed why he's the best captain in the AFL in that last quarter. It stopped being an all-out offensive exhibition game for him and he turned up the chasing and tackling pressure and the rest of the Vic side followed. Vics kicked 9.5 to 0.2 in the last to win 24.10-154 to 15.18-108.

ps. The great news is no injuries  :thumbsup.

THE BIG V reigns supreme once more.

On the canvas midway through the third quarter, Victoria produced a spirited comeback to overturn a 30-point deficit and storm home against a talented All-Stars outfit in the State of Origin for Bushfire Relief match in front of a packed crowd at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.

The Victorian side, led by Josh Kelly and Dustin Martin's class in the forward line and Scott Pendlebury and Trent Cotchin's leadership in midfield, kicked 11 unanswered goals in a barnstorming finish that inspired an impressive and determined 46-point victory.

Martin – already a Brownlow Medal winner, a two-time premiership player and a dual Norm Smith medallist – added a State of Origin best on ground medal to his list of accomplishments following a stellar game that yielded 23 disposals and two goals.

He was aided by Tom Papley (11 disposals, five goals), Tom Greene (23 disposals, four goals) and Kelly (22 disposals, four goals) – who were a constant menace forward of centre.

For the All-Stars, Stephen Coniglio (24 disposals, two goals) was busy across the ground, while livewire forward Charlie Cameron (17 disposals, three goals) was also impressive.

Cotchin's tackling was supreme. In fact I was quite surprised at how well he played for his first hitout this year. Was expecting a slower start.

Jack solid.

Dusty awesome and was literally giving goals away, could have had 4-5 no trouble.

Houli, Edwards and Lynch quiet but wgaf

I can't find a pic with both Dimma and Cotch together holding the cup. They didn't raise it sky high like the premiership cup.

There is this one of Dimma receiving the cup:

I wouldn't say clear but he deserved it. Dusty had the equal most disposals (23), kicked 2 goals himself in the first half and as Andyy said Dusty gave off about 4-5 goals.

The crowd loved Dusty. You could hear the crowd noise rise every time the ball went near him. He is the AFL's No.1 player and face of the game. No one else comes near him. One time Lynch even got booed when he went for the same mark as Dusty lol.

The AFL released to the public how the medal was awarded on the back of a five-member judging panel where each voting member handed out voted on a 3, 2, 1 basis.

Martin tallied 10 votes from the judging panel, finishing ahead of Josh Kelly (six votes) and Scott Pendlebury (five votes). Stephen Coniglio (three votes) was the only other player to receive votes from more than one judge.

Martin received two votes from Nick Riewoldt, one vote from Luke Hodge, three votes from Ray Gallagher (president of the Omeo District Football Netball League), one vote from Stephen Griffin (CEO SES), and three votes from the official fan’s poll.

Ch 9 news said State of Origin is back on the agenda to desperately try and bring $$$ back into the game's coffers.
