who remembers...
« on: May 15, 2022, 09:31:33 PM »
i remember years ago one the best things after a win was driving home or on the train listening to the post match review on 3aw or abc etc...jumped in the car yesterday and every stuffing station was covering the same game....i feel sorry for the youngsters today as they never experienced footy at its best imo

The best was ABC talk back when Tom Hafety was doing special comments after a win.

It was brilliant listening to Tommy talk about his Tigers.  You could feel how proud he was.

Just devastating he didn't get to see any of our 3 GF wins.

Sam and Rex on Friday night’s after the game was always magnificent and entertaining listening
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

The football radio service back in the 70's & 80's was really brilliant.  3AW with Harry Beitzel & Tommy Lahiff was golden, the talk back after the game was even better than the match broadcast.
Wide World of Sport on sunday morning was unmissable too!  Jack Dyer trying to kill either Lou Richards or the script (depending on which one he could catch) was priceless.  Uncle Doug set them up, the panel knocked em down!     :clapping

Who would've thought two blokes chopping through a log would be such great part of a football show?  That's World of Sports for ya!       :clapping

Coaches Corner or Club Corner should be part of a footy show on a Sunday. The coaches can get a bertocchi ham and a tosca suitcase, The AFL need to get a free to air broadcaster who will do shows like Talking Footy as well.

"Are ya there 'arry'  Tommy Lahiff calling Harry Bietzell when Tommy was doing the "around the grounds" segments.     Classic
One day Tommy got on the line with Harry & started with "Are ya there 'arry?"  Then a loud clunk with a muffled voice later Tommy came back on saying, "I've lost me hearing aid 'arry!   Can ya hear me 'arry, cos I can't hear you!"  Then Tommy crawls around on the floor of the changing rooms with an open mic on national radio asking odd players if they've seen his hearing aid?  Eventually Tommy finds it & gets back to the job with, "I've got it 'arry, I still can't hear anything 'arry (cos the players were roaring out the team song by now) but I hope you can hear me!"
